I think it's basically about someone who has tried very hard to find meaning in his/her life but has only came to realize that he doesn't have a special purpose. All he has is a "self-fulfilling prophecy with endless possibility. " and that gets him down. However, as the song continues, he realizes the beauty in simplicity: "like candles in the city, they never looked so pretty. By powercuts and blackouts, sleeping like babies. " by observing the beauty of simplicity, he finds out that his role too is very simple: he/she is "just playing a part" and that there is no time to over-analyze the world.

In my opinion: "What is creativity in the age of mass communication." A feeling of the loss of paradise, that feeling that there is something going on behind the shadows, and we are all being fed with crap to make our lives feel meaningful, at the cost of other things like nature, religion, spirit, creativity.
