So sick of the hobos always begging for change
I don't like how I gotta work and
And they just sit around and get paid
I hate all of the people who can't drive their cars.
Bitch you better get outta the way
Before I start falling apart

I hate how my wife is always up my ass
She always wants to buy brand new things
But I don't have the cash.

I hate my job, all of my rich friends
I hate everyone to the bitter end.
Nothing turns out right, there's no end in sight
I hate my life!

How come I never get laid, nice guys always lose.
How could she have another headache
There's always some kind of excuse
I still hate my job, my boss is a dick
"I don't get paid nearly enough
To put up with all of his shit"

I hate my job, all of my rich friends
I hate everyone to the bitter end.
Nothing turns out right, there's no end in sight
I hate my life!
Yeah!

I hate that I can't tell when a girl's underage,
You know, I tell her she's a nice piece of ass,
Then her daddy punches me in the face

So if you're pissed like me
Bitches, here is what you gotta do
Put your middle fingers up in the air
Go on and say fuck you

I hate my job, all of my rich friends
I hate everyone to the bitter end.
Nothing turns out right There's no end in sight
I hate my life!

So much at stake, can't catch a break
I hate my life
No, it's nothing new, "it really sucks to be you"
I fuckin hate my life!
FUCK!

I love this song, and mostly because I have days like this. I'm in my late 20's, haven't got a degree and am going back to school, holding down a full time job. I'm working so hard to make my life better, and yet people sit on their rear and beg and probably make more a day than I do (for now). My wife is in school too, and sometimes it's really hard to find the time to get laid. Until I get that degree, my job stinks and I do hate my boss. And there are days where it all adds up, and this song really speaks to me. Makes me laugh on those days, in some weird way makes me remeber that it's just temporary and things will get better.

I like this song, cause for me it's some kind of... joke.
I think that the band is laughing at people who have almost everything and still complain.
They have good jobs (and rich friends) so they hate hobos. They drive like crazy, that's why they hate other drivers. They have pretty wives, who sometimes merry them only for money, but the most important thing to them is their beauty (not their soul or intelect). They don't need love, just sex, and always have too little money (although they have plenty). They are jerks ("I tell her she's a nice piece of ass") and can't understand that. :)

And about "sound like other bands". I love Pearl Jam. In 1991 (great year for music) I was 14. Thanks to "guitar" music of 90's I am who I am. This is post-grunge band (like Nickelback and many more). We'll see how many of them survive more than a few years on top and creates their individual sound (like PJ). And will become great. Maybe none of them. But for today they play pretty good stuff so it's pleasure to listen to some of their songs.
Of course it's just mine opinion.

Didn't like the song when I first heard it, but it has grown on me and is now in my top 10 new rock songs. TOAD is awesome. Their first two CD's were both really good. This one was a little bit of a letdown for me, but still good. I just didn't think it was as good as the first two. If you don't have their first two CD's, pick them up . . . they both have lots of really good songs on them that were never released as singles.

These lyrics are a quite humorous insight into daily life. By the way, if you are stupid enough to interpret this song literally, let alone apply it to its authors, I suggest you get your hands chopped off and your lips sewn shut so as to prevent them embarrasing you by spewing such idiocy in public view.

Ghod, this is so me 25 years ago and yet tragically (in the original Greek sense) is still salient today. So much horsepower and so little transmission.

    -Greg

BTW, @Kha: This is about wasted youth despite sincere effort. It is about really, really trying and cratering when you know everybody else got it the first time... Times 10 years.

Think about about finally getting the joke everyone was laughing about in 8th grade... Only you're in college... And you got all the other jokes... Just not the right one...
