The Sound Of Music – My Favourite Things lyrics

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens,
bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens,
brown paper packages tied up with strings,
these are a few of my favorite things.

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels,
door bells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles.
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings.
these are a few of my favorite things.

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes,
snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes,
silver white winters that melt into springs,
these are a few of my favorite things.

When the dog bites, when the bee stings,
when I'm feeling sad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
and then I don't feel so bad.

Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens,
bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens,
brown paper packages tied up with strings,
these are a few of my favorite things.

Cream colored ponies and crisp apple strudels,
door bells and sleigh bells and schnitzel with noodles.
Wild geese that fly with the moon on their wings.
these are a few of my favorite things.

Girls in white dresses with blue satin sashes,
snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes,
silver white winters that melt into springs,
these are a few of my favorite things.

When the dog bites, when the bee stings,
when I'm feeling sad,
I simply remember my favorite things,
and then I don't feel so bad.

In the movie, I interpreted this song as Maria's way of telling the Von Trapp children to take pleasure in and appreciate even the little things. "When the dog bites, when the bee stings, when I'm feeling sad" you can just remember the small and simple things that make you happy and that can give you happiness even in hard times. If you can learn to appreciate even the small, simple, little everyday things you will have a greater appreciation and gratefulness for everything around you. The Von Trapp children were definitely slightly spoiled, and through this song Maria was trying to teach them you don't need expensive, fancy things to make you happy. When you learn to have greater appreciation for other things, even "warm woolen mittens" can be a source of happiness for you!
