K well this song is about a girl who in the beginning is getting to go to a motel to meet this guy. Not so wrong right? Well, it turns out she's cheating on her husband. His life is crashing down around him; I guess he invested in the stock market, cause that falls and helps to ruin his life. Eventually he just wants it all to be over. Can you blame him? Well, I guess his wife kills him in the middle of the song. By the end, the girl is sleeping all by herself cause she doesn't have a husband anymore and she accepts that. She knows it's all her fault.

I think that the story line is that the wife has an affair because she's unsatisfied in her marriage to the husband, whom is also unsatisfied and just generally depressed about life and work and love. The affair doesn't really mean anything to the wife, but the husband finds out and, in his depression, kills himself. So at the end she's alone but will be okay in the end, because her marriage was already loveless so the loss of her husband isn't that great.

The song is about sin and redemption. The wife (protagonist) has sinned because instead of being faithful to her husband she become involved in an affair with an unknown man. She does this because she is searching for a "true" inner love that she doesn't find in her marriage or affair (hence because "she is fine" at the end of the song after the affair and marriage). By finding this new love she brings about her redemption and she is more "functional".
The husband (antagonist) tries to regain some control in his life since he can't control the stock market he turns to his wife's affair. The husband has fallen because ("he wants this to be over") has murdered his wife's lover. I can't say if he ever redeems himself because he is no longer mentioned in the song.
Therefore I believe this song is about learning to love oneself so we don't hurt ourselves and our loved ones. (didn't think this was religious, just if you think about it this way a lot of stuff makes sense.)
