There used to be a graying tower alone on the sea
You became the light on the dark side of me
Love remained a drug that's the high and not the pill

But did you know
That when it snows
My eyes become large
And the light that you shine can be seen

Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray
Ooh, the more I get of you, ooh stranger it feels, yeah
And now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray

There is so much a man can tell you, so much he can say
You remain my power, my pleasure, my pain, baby
To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny yeah
Won't you tell me is that healthy, baby?

But did you know
That when it snows
My eyes become large
And the light that you shine can be seen

Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray
Ooh, the more I get of you, stranger it feels, yeah
Now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray

I've been kissed by a rose on the gray
I've been kissed by a rose on the gray
And if I should fall, at all
I've been kissed by a rose on the gray

There is so much a man can tell you, so much he can say
You remain my power, my pleasure, my pain
To me you're like a growing addiction that I can't deny, yeah
Won't you tell me is that healthy, baby?

But did you know
That when it snows
My eyes become large
And the light that you shine can be seen

Baby, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray
Ooh, the more I get of you, stranger it feels, yeah
And now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray

Yes, I compare you to a kiss from a rose on the gray
Ooh, the more I get of you, stranger it feels, yeah
And now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray

Now that your rose is in bloom
A light hits the gloom on the gray

I have never understood why this song was ever popular. My eyes become large? Don't really care what the meaning is!

Kissed by a rose is actually a ephemism for being kissed by the poppy... Ie heroin! Read the lyrics again... This song is about the pleasure and pain of heroin addiction!

The meaning of kissed by a rose:
being kissed by the rose is being kissed by the woman who was created by the almighty force to bear souls in heaven all at the beginning of time. Being kissed by her is when you realize that she exists and loves us, and loves the earth. She is what is perceived as evil, satan, whatever but there is no evil. Once kissed by her, then the forces eyes become large and he can see your light, because you then know the real truth. I am he. I am her. I am their son.

Kissed by a rose could mean her tombstone has a rose on it, and that rose that he put there is the only thing you can see besides grey in the graveyard when it snows

The grey is a tombstone. By comparing her to being kissed by a rose on the grey, he means that she is a shining bit of color in a dreary near-death kind of life, the way a rose on a tombstone is a spot of beauty against death-grey stone.

Conversely, could mean that he believes she came along too late in his life, because he is already dead inside.
