VERSE
In this one of many possible worlds
All for the best, or some bizarre test
It is what it is and whatever
Time is still the infinite jest

The arrow flies when you dream
The hours tick away
The cells tick away

The Watchmaker keeps to his schemes
The hours tick away
They tick away

CHORUS
The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect
So hard to earn, so easily burned
The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect
So hard to earn, so easily burned
In the fullness of time
A garden to nurture and protect

VERSE
In the rise and the set of the sun
To the stars goes spinning
Spinning 'round the night
Oh it is what it is and forever
Each moment of memory aflight
The arrow flies while you dream
The hours tick away
The cells tick away
The Watchmaker has time up his sleeve
The hours tick away
They tick away

CHORUS
The measure of a life is a measure of love and respect
So hard to earn, so easily burned
In the fullness of time
A garden to nurture and protect
(Its a measure of a life)
The treasure of a life is a measure of love and respect
The way you live,
The gifts that you give
And the fullness of time is the only return that you expect

BRIDGE
The future disappears into memory
With only a moment between
Forever dwells in that moment
Hope is what remains to be seen
Forever dwells in that moment
Hope is what remains to be seen

SOLO

OUTRO
In the fullness of time a garden to nurture and protect
(Its a measure of a life)

It's a measure of a life

The measure of life is a measure of love and respect...the way you live, the gifts that you give, and the fullness of time is the only return that you expect.

Ok there maybe a little more meaning behind it but read the novel the last chapter the little "chapter title" has one of the lyrics in it's about the protagonist living his life in well peace with his wife the album talks about in halo effect it's the protagonist Owen hardy living his life away from the anarchist and the wreckers and the watchmaker and his faith he lost while being a homeless is given back in a form of love so yeah I may be wrong but the album and the novel is highly similar so yeah.

This is most definitely not rush saying goodbye. This is about the whole life process of reaching that maturity when you reach that sacred place of love and fulfillment. We shouldn't forget who wrote these wonderful lyrics, and the road he has ridden to reach his "garden". The man is a modern day genius and we should treasure him as such. Bless you neil, bless you.

This is a very metaphysical song imho, not unlike rush to produce and it being the last track on what is supposed to be their last album it isn't surprising that it one of, if not the best song they have yet to produce. I feel that it relates to the struggles in life that you go through, that only act as experience and add meaning to your life giving your existence meaning and providing a fullness/wholeness to life. This fullness/wholeness is the garden that you must nurture and protect. I also believe this is a very personal song for rush as i feel like rush is expressing this view as a message telling us that our life is measured by how much love and respect we both earn and give to the rest of our fellow humans. That they are sharing this with us as a result of decades of experiences all converged into the most meaningful 7 minutes of my life.
