    The meaning of this song to me is that before you can run you have to walk. There are somethings in life that take us to a place we have never before seen. One riddled with heartache and misinterpretation of the events which unfolded. This song to me is one meant for inspiration. Pick yourself up and take a chance as we as humans do throughout or lifetime. Take those baby steps and reclaim your heart and find your own place in this world. Never give up no matter how hard an obstacle may seem. Understanding of most things come from self discovery and courage to face the lesson we each have to go through to get to our own happiness. If I don't have faith in myself, love myself, and above all know my own worth how can I expect anyone else to. Those are the roots you have to get before you can have branches simply put. :)

    We all feel lost and confused. We don't know who we are most of the time and when we think we're found our way something happens and that makes us realize that maybe we still haven't found our path! I feel lost, confused and sad and no matter how hard we try it is hard to find our way. For me that music means that we have to have roots: a family, a lover something that will make us carry on and try to go far. Something that we know that we'll be there waiting for us when we fail or when we suceed.

    When you've gone astray from your dreams, it doesn't mean it's the end of the world. Sometimes in order to achieve your dreams, you might have to take the longer route, instead of the shorter ones that are laid out, but you are unable to reach. You can be the same great person that you've always wanted to be, even if just a little fallen behind others. There's always a way, there's always a way. I wish my friends will read this, because they have been shaken up lately by reality, finally realising that there might be other paths to achieving their dreams. They are learning it the hard way.

    This song is about. When you feel that you lost in your way to chase your dreams and you don't even know why. You realize that in order to follow your dream you have to deal with the reality too, and sometimes the reality got really harsh, but you have to believe your dream is what you meant to do in your life, and your dream is what makes you who you are. So don't give up in your dream :)

    They messed up with the names, it's nikki anders and adam hassman not nikki hassman and adam anders. Anyways I totally love the song it's truly beautifull and I really identify myself with the lyrics. I mean, we are always imagining us in the future and dreaming of being the pritiest star but we have to follow an order, first roots then branches, first present then future. I also loved the glee version.

    This song really means alot to me, in that it says that you have to remember the aspects of life that got you to where you are today (in other words, your roots), before you can go out on your own. I find this easiest to compare with graduating, as in those years were your roots, and now you are about to branch out and make your own life. This song is very touching to me.
    Also, this message had nothing to do with glee, they merely saw the song in the same way as I did.

    To me this means you have to be anchored (the roots) before you can grow into a bigger and better person (the branches) to know who you really before you can change to be what kind of person you want to be. The faith to take chances (even when times get rough) of not knowing what will happen if you take them. Jus believe that you made the best decision and that it will lead you to live the life that you need to live in the place in this world that was made for you.

    You can depend on no one in this world but yourself. Let yourself grow without rushing. Don't worry if everything goes in your way. Nothing is impossible. And so with coping up with all the problems that may come. Like the rain, it will help a tree grow. Be brave enough not just to face the rain, but the instances of growing up. Let your branches spread far and wide.

    Its about moving on in life I mean its how you should reach so high when ur not so ahead to take one step at a time then to skip thru life just saying this gets me emotional I mean its so sad going to graduate soon & I can't leave the kids I knew since I was a first grader I can't do this I love them and I don't think I wanna leave them but I gotta grow & move on in life sooo gotta have roots before branches.

    This songs means a great many things. We build friendships and relationships over time and sometimes there comes a point when we realize we need roots before we can have all these branches. We need to figure out who we are before we make all these friends and have all these relationships. If we never find ourselves, then we will never have a fulfilled life. If we cannot stand on our own, we will never be able to stand strongly with others.

    Everyone has a person inside them who they need to find. But to be able to find who you are you have to go through the good and bad experiences of life. You have to take chances, have faith, and through all these you'll find yourself and who you wanna be.
    Gotta have roots before branches just means that you have to grow. You have to start off small and make yourself face life, even when its hard. Growing into the person you want to be takes time.

    Wrong Wrong. This song clearly has religious meanings. One generation to another right or wrong our beliefs are passed on and in some horrible ways to say the least!
    It makes me sick when people always try to find a positive or up-lifting meaning to a song. I know the world is a terrible place at times but lets not suger coat it or stick our heads in the sand, life isn't all Mary Poppins and Disneyland little kiddies.

    Ummm. Idk, is it a christain song? Beucase the meaning is good but whom are directing the meaning too, I'm all music but only if it brings glory and aknowledgment to god, and just beucase this song says the word "faith" does not make it a chirstian song. Just thought I would throw that out there becuase my friend wanted to know. But it is a very beautiful song though.
