I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black

I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes

I see a line of cars and they're all painted black
With flowers and my love, both never to come back
I see people turn their heads and quickly look away
Like a newborn baby it just happens ev'ryday

I look inside myself and see my heart is black
I see my red door and it has been painted black
Maybe then I'll fade away and not have to face the facts
It's not easy facing up when your whole world is black

No more will my green sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not forsee this thing happening to you
If I look hard enough into the setting sun
My love will laugh with me before the morning comes

I see a red door and I want it painted black
No colors anymore I want them to turn black
I see the girls walk by dressed in their summer clothes
I have to turn my head until my darkness goes

Hmm, hmm, hmm...

I wanna see it painted black, painted black
Black as night, black as coal
I wanna see the sun, blotted out from the sky
I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black
Yeah

Hmm, hmm, hmm...

I think the person he loves died. "line of cars and they are painted black."
Also the red door would be his heart. He wants to paint it black with sorrow and black is usually connected with death. When he sees other girls he thinks about it. As for the newborn thing babies are born every 8 seconds and peple die every 10.

btw this song is about death and i agree with (Me4283u) someone dies every day and a baby is born every day!! People never stop to think about it(I See people turn their head and QUICKLY look away)They don't want to think about it!

this song is about a dude whose favorite color is black and all the weird things that happen to him because he likes this color so much. he likes it so much that he hates all the other colors and he doesn't like girls in summer dresses because their dresses aren't black. i like black too. i wanna paint you black. baby.

It's a pretty simple interpretation. The guy's girlfriend has died and he's greiving. Everyone wants to make more out of 60's lyrics. A fifth grader at my wife's school sang the song at a talent show and the principle received complaints about letting the kid do a song about drugs. Come on!!!
