Red Hot Chili Peppers – Can't Stop lyrics
Can't stop addicted to the shin dig
Chop top he says I'm gonna win big
Choose not a life of imitation
Distant cousin to the reservation
Defunkt the pistol that you pay for
This punk the feeling that you stay for
In time I want to be your best friend
East side love is living on the west end
Knocked out but boy you better come to
Don't die you know the truth as some do
Go write your message on the pavement
Burn so bright I wonder what the wave meant
White heat is screaming in the jungle
Complete the motion if you stumble
Go ask the dust for any answers
Come back strong with fifty million answers.

The world I love
The tears I've dropped
To be part of
The way you can't stop
Ever wonder if it's all for you
The world I love
The trains I hopped
To be part of
The wave can't stop
Come and tell me when it's time to

Sweetheart is bleeding in the snowcone
So smart she's leading me to ozone
Music the great communicator
Use two sticks to make it in the nature
I'll get you into penetration
The gender of a generation
The birth of every other nation
Worth your weight the gold of meditation
This chapter's gonna to be a close one
Smoke rings I know your gonna blow one
All on a spaceship persevering
Use my hands for everything but steering
Can't stop the spirits when they need you
Mop tops are happy when they feed you
J. Butterfly is in the treetop
Birds that blow the meaning into bebop

The world I love
The tears I've dropped
To be part of
The wave can't stop
Ever wonder if it's all for you
The world I love
The trains I hopped
To be part of
The wave can't stop
Come and tell me when it's time to

Wait a minute I'm passing out
Win or lose just like you
Far more shocking
Than anything I ever knew
How about you
Ten more reasons
Why I need somebody new just like you
Far more shocking than anything I ever knew
Right on cue

Can't stop addicted to the shindig
Chop Top it says I'm gonna win big
Choose not a life of imitation
Distant cousin to the reservation
Defunkt the pistol that you pay for
This punk the feeling that you stay for
In time I want to be your best friend
Eastside love is living on the westend
Knocked out but boy you better come to
Don't die you know the truth as some do
Go write your message on the pavement
Burn so bright I wonder what the wave meant

Kick start the golden generator
Sweet talk but don't intimidate her
Can't stop the gods from engineering
Fear no need for any interfering
Your image in the dictionary
This life is more than ordinary
Can I get two maybe even three of these
Comin' from a space to teach you of the Pleiades
Can't stop the spirits when they need you
This life is more than just a read through

He is talking about how in this world there are different souls, people that look the same but have a different conciousness. They have their "eye' open.

He is a "distant cousin to the reservation" means he comes from these people, these souls.

"Choose not a life of imitation" means he doesnt live the life of the Adam/Eve people(tribe). These souls are the masters of earth, they have a higher conciousness - The other tribe (Adam/Eve) is "imitating" them.
Thats ironic because "humans" are imitating "aliens", who've become the "disired" humans.

"Go write your message on the pavement" he is telling us the truth in his words. Also "I know your going to blow one"

"All on a spaceship persevering" is a reference to how they came to earth. Since assimilating they have grown to a great tribe. They rule, but are only 1/5 of mankind.

"Can't stop the spirits when they need you", he refers to these souls being able to "see" different energies. They can do many things..

"Mop Tops are happy when they feed you", the Adam/Eve humans feed these other souls with energy. Energy can be transmitted through thoughts for example. They dont "need" "this" energy.

Lastly, these higher souls have kings and queens, dont forget they are a fifth of mankind, to these ruler's (almost gods) hes making some refferences, some are ovious.

But Im not going to elaborate on that. (^HBAM^)

In the end, all is one, and one is all. All souls are one, a creation of everything, which is called "Jehova".
Dont be scared there are many souls.

I think this song has more meaning than some people think. I agree with garlandofdarkness. The song mentions meditation, spirits, the Pleiades, "Choose not a life of IMITATION" and "the wave can't stop". That last part of the wave I think is about the new earth that we are evolving to. Also, the verse, "all on a spaceship preservering" makes you think. And the verse that says, "FEAR, no need for interfering" is comforting, for we shouldn't fear what is to come. I think the rhcp are on to something.

I have always thought this song means that they can't stop playing music because they love it. And the lyrics include some of the things they have been influenced by and learned through their years of musical pursuits. And how this has affected every aspect of their lives. It also alludes to the fact that this was all destiny. And, of course incorporates some s** into all of it. It couldn't be a rhcp song without that.

I've noticed how most people who've commented on this song think that the all round meaning is spiritual. Though I believe part of that to be true, I also believe that people have missed numerous parts of the song that seems to teach about Kiedis's own personal experiences including personal enlightenment. The song "Can't Stop" is a perfect illustration of how the band will occasionally write lyrics to a rhythm rather than a rhythm to lyrics. [3] Kiedis uses his customary circumlocutory writing style. However, the title and the last line - "This life is more than just a read-through. " - indicate the main theme of the poem, which is the development of an inner, personal vitality. The verses are written in an instructional style, with references to Kiedis' own life as well as naming Defunkt ("Defunkt, the pistol that you pay for") and Julia Butterfly Hill as sources of inspiration ("J. Butterfly is in the treetops"). The bridge marks a slight departure, as Kiedis suggests he had temporarily forgotten this philosophy, and looks to a new lover to help himself back on his feet. Either way you can interpret this song in anyway you think means most to you. All in all it is like every other song written by Kiedis.

I know many users I've seen comment here suggests that this song is spiritual and while I believe part of it to be true I think that there are many parts of this song that focus on Kiedis's personal life and things he's experienced and trying to enlighten in himself. The song "Can't Stop" is a perfect illustration of how the band will occasionally write lyrics to a rhythm rather than a rhythm to lyrics. Kiedis uses his customary circumlocutory writing style. However, the title and the last line - "This life is more than just a read-through. " - indicate the main theme of the poem, which is the development of an inner, personal vitality. Butterfly is in the treetops"). The bridge marks a slight departure, as Kiedis suggests he had temporarily forgotten this philosophy, and looks to a new lover to help himself back on his feet. Either way you can interpret this song in anyway you want to because the lyrics are mainly just simple rhymes with no clear meaning.

Sorry, I love the song, but there's no meaningful thread in there. He's just set out with the music and an idea of the rhythm of the words he wants then created or picked phrases that have arisen in his life or news stories etc. A nice set of rhymes in penetration; generation; nation; meditation, but, ultimately it's a pop song without meaning, just enjoy this one.
