Ray Price – Maiden's Prayer lyrics

When the evening falls twilight shadows find
There beneath the stars an Indian maiden divine
The moon is on high and seems to see her there
In her eyes there's a light shining ever so bright
As she whispers a silent prayer
Every word reveals an empty broken heart
Broken by fate that's keepin' them so far apart
Lonely there she kneels and tells the stars above
In her arms he belongs and her prayer is a song
Her undying song of love
[ fiddle ]
Every word reveals an empty broken heart...

This is a very nostalgic song for me. There is a rumor that it was an instrumental from the civil war. I was told this years ago. However, bob wills may have actually written the lyrics way back in circa 1952-4.
I grew up in south texas. In high school, we would go to a dance almost every saturday night. The best country music anywhere was always performed by some extremely talented locals.
The song would start and I would grab a girl and claim ownership of the best hardwood floor in texas. The place is still standing. It's called the robstown community hall in robstown, texas. It is worth a sunday afternoon visit from 12-4. Don't be a stranger.
