Puscifer – Green Valley lyrics
Hello stranger,
Can you tell us where you've been?
More importantly,
How ever did you come to be here?
Though a stranger,
You can rest here for a while.
But save your energy,
Your journey here is far from over.
Come the sunrise,
We'll descend through Judgement Valley
And weigh your worth
Before her majesty, the Verde River.

No direction but to follow what you know,
No direction but a faith in her decision,
No direction but to never fight her flow,
No direction but to trust the final destination.
You're a stranger til she whispers you can stay.
You're a stranger til she whispers that your journey's over.

Weigh your worth before her majesty, the Verde River.
Weigh your worth before her majesty, the Verde River.
Weigh your worth before her majesty, the Verde River.
Weigh your worth before her majesty, the Verde River.

It's like that the river means the unseen matter that floats trough everthing, like love and that some call god. We people are not in controll of our own direction alone, there is this unphysicle "power" that "guids" us. And as I have been a stranger to the world as most people have been, which is becouse I was locked inside my head. Not beeing connected to the emotions and feelings in this river. Life is just about love and this feeling that comes with it. I reconise tool also sings a lot about this stuff. Like he's trying to tell experiences that are to deep in pychic/metal trough the connection with the dynamic thing called life. Or as I try to explain my feelings and visions sometimes, this band is far beyond of what I can explain yet. Mostly also these girls/womans are nog real but rather and image of a god, like the sun/nature/beauty etc. It's not that simple all so I just keep on ramming my words. I guess this materialistic word is so variable in perception(don't mind my writing fouls btw) and with(or without) some bain stimulation(drugs) you can see beyond this with the third eye and you will be able to look at the other side without you eyes open.
Or like, who am I, and whatever.

Its about dmt and ayahuasca trips. "where you been" meaning reality. "how to you come to be here" hyper space. Even though your not suppose to be there mother aya will let you stay for awhile. And that's who she is. Also, you have to trust her and let her take you where you wanna go. Also, this is kinda intriguing taking in maynards and the rest of tools beliefs. "green valley" is the area of mars the phoenix lander lanaded at.

I think the song is about me, and you, and him. Most of you all read way into lyrics when if you ever listen to any of his lyrics especially you should know that he doesn't write just for himself or his grapes, but for everything going on in this crazy world. The point is no mater how many posts there are about this song, the true meaning to james is way deeper than any of us will ever get.

Stranger would be the true self that is unseen because of worries of the physical self and focus on desires other than the author of ones own peace. Where is this stranger when the ego is hiding within itself (i am you) and not being chased away by the stranger. But more importantly why is the stranger at the forefront of conciousness now. Selfish wishes, because there is a possiblity that the ego allowed it to appear in an attempt to save itself instead of surrendering trying to make room for itself and chasing all other good away therefore unable to grow. You can rest here and reflect recharge for awhile but still must chase and descend after this false illusion and false self that is running away into its own slavery. In chasing after the beginning of this illusion begins whenever judgment is made and if incorrect must be revisited by the one who has surrendered to the author of ones own peace. And also depending on what the focus is reflecting on the reason that the stranger came to begin with. (loops around) yes I know maybe one in a thousand will have anyidea of what this song is about.

In the last few years maynard has gone thru major spiritual crisis.
After having taken care of his sick mother for years as he explains in both 10, 000 days (a refrence to the lenth of his mothers illness) and judith [a questioning of his mothers faith as he felt god had abandoned her]. I see this as a surrendering to mother earth on his part. Puting faith in the final destination of fate. As always he is both cryptic and metaphoric.

I think you can just take meaning literally as you read it as the element powers of spiritualism ask many questions which answer bigger unasked questions pertaining the soul about the verde river that has made that lush valley it's paradise and once you have understood the purpose the verde bestows upon life. Then and only then do you become one with it. & other such deeper meanings of course that I'm positive just came off the top of his head while scribing this trance moment.

The song asks us to weigh our worth. For him, it must be related to the verde river as his grape crop relays on it, and we all know how proud he is of his winery. What is it in our own lives that we give thanks to? Who/what do we owe for our personal successes? Some people just go with god, while others go with something more like an earth spirit. At the end of our lives, this entity may ask us where we've been, how'd we get to be there with them, and, what have we done here on earth. We cannot fight the inevitably of death. No direction but to be headed in that direction. After we are done here on earth, our journey continues somewhere other than here. Until we meet this entity, we are strangers, whatever plane of existence we happen to be on.

To me the "stranger" isn't one person, but mankind as a whole. Modern human has lived on this planet for a tiny little blink of an eye, and whether we will be allowed to stay on this planet as a long standing species is yet to be seen. If "her majesty" decides that we are not a sustainable fixture here, she may well decide to shrug us off like a parasite.

I believe maynard's interest in his wines is a spiritual exercise, so it is no surprise his new album is so dense with vineyard symbolism. However, this song is not just about growing grapes - it is a spiritual affirmation of communion with his "stranger", who I believe is his devoted audience. We have traveled far and wide, and have made our way back to them, finding open arms and the most pure and beautiful revelatory gifts. Soon it is time to postrate ourselves before the divine mother, the empress of all, source of life, the verde river a fractal reflection, so we may be humbled and know ourselves as children again. He fancies himself a reverend, and I for one recall I'm one of his flock.
