[FALLING IN AND OUT OF LOVE]

More than I could feel
And touching what is real
All my mind is reelin' round
'cause Carolina's feeling down today

Falling in and out of love with you
Falling in and out of love with you
Don't know what I'm gonna do
I keep falling in and out of love

Oh, I tried to find
Thinkin' just the other day
Something that would ease her mind
Something that I meant to say to her

Falling in and out of love with you
Falling in and out of love with you
Don't know what I'm gonna do
I keep falling in and out of love with you

I think I could stay with you for a while, maybe longer, if I do

[AMIE]

I can see why you think you belong to me
I never tried to make you think or let you see one thing for yourself
But now you're off with someone else and I'm alone
You see, I thought that I might keep you for my own

Amie, what d'you want to do?
I think I could stay with you for a while, maybe longer, if I do

Don't you think the time is right for us to find
All the things we thought weren't proper could be right, in time
And, can you see which way we should turn together or alone?
I can never see what's right or what is wrong
(Don't take too long with me)

Amie, what d'you want to do?
I think I could stay with you for a while, maybe longer, if I do

Amie, what d'you want to do?
I think I could stay with you for a while, maybe longer, if I do

Now it's come to what you want - you've had your way
And all the things you thought before just faded into grey
And can you see that I don't know if it's you or if it's me?
If it's one of us I'm sure we both will see

(Won't you look at me and tell me...)
Amie, what d'you want to do?
I think I could stay with you for a while, maybe longer, if I - longer, if I do

(Yeah, now...)
Amie, what d'you want to do?
I think I could stay with you for a while, maybe longer, if I do

I keep falling in and out of love with you
Falling in and out of love with you
Don't know what I'm gonna do
I keep falling in and out of love with you

So what's the deal with caroline? Does she know that the protagonist is still pining for lost love? Is he only smitten with amie when caroline is in "one of her moods"? Relationships require work.. You can't walk away when it gets challenging... Would he be pining for caroline as soon as he was having a bad day with amie? He sounds selfish and lazy.

Long ago, they were deeply in love, but it could not be. They went their ways, but he still loved her. Then, she came back into his life; she had another, but the old feelings were still there. He knows what he wants; he asks her what she truly wants.
