Pierce The Veil – Tangled In The Great Escape lyrics

[Jason Butler]
Well, don't you say you had a part of it,
I guess we'll never know.
Oh, would you say that I had a part of it?
Well, I guess we'll never know?

[Vic Fuentes]
Constant recovery,
I see you choke and it takes my breath away

[Jason Butler]
When all is good, we close our eyes,
[Vic Fuentes]
They all accept the lie.
So bury what you want outside (bury what you want outside).
[Jason Butler]
Brother, promise you won't leave me!

[Vic Fuentes]
I know you're tortured within,
Your eyes look hungry again,
But I'll never wander, my friend.

[Jason Butler]
Well, somebody believed in this suicide,
Am I the only one that thinks that you should stay alive?
[Vic Fuentes]
Oh, I became the train as you backed up on the ropes
To arm yourself and lie

[Jason Butler]
So, I scream, "mayday I'm in trouble, send somebody on the double"
Scratching at the floor inside my mind
[Vic Fuentes]
They all accept the lie
So bury what you want outside (bury what you want outside)
[Jason Butler]
Brother, please don't be afraid of...

[Vic Fuentes]
I know you're tortured within,
Your eyes look hungry again,
But I'll never wander, my friend.

I let you down
And I started to run,
Never meant to be your pain!
What have I become?

[Jason Butler]
Show me, show me the way back,
Show me the way back home!

[Vic Fuentes]
I know you're tortured within,
Your eyes look hungry again,
[Jason Butler]
But I'll never wander, my friend
No, I'll never wander again

[Vic Fuentes]
(Not what I want, not what I need)
(Not what I want, not what I need)
(Not what I want, not what I need)
(Not what I want, not what I need)

(Not what I want)
(Not what I need)

[Jason Butler]
Can I just have one more taste?
[Vic Fuentes]
Just to make it through the day,
You're tangled in,
[Jason Butler]
You're tangled in the great escape
(Can I have just one more taste?)
Great escape, oh

I never meant to hurt nobody, no, no, yeah
I never meant to hurt you, no, no no, no
I only meant to do this to myself, to myself, to myself
Great escape, great escape, great escape
Oh, great escape
Let me out of this, yeah
Baby, let me out of this, yeah...

-I wrote this about one of my best friends who got hooked on some pretty serious drugs. It got to the point where I was so scared that if he didn't get cleaned up soon, I knew he was going to die. I felt so powerless because I am always on tour and there's no real way for me to help someone like this from so far away. I flew out to Detroit to do some co-writing with my friend B-South (Brian Southall). We had done a lot of work together on our side project Isles & Glaciers, so I hit him up to see if he'd be down to make some more songs. By the time I got back to San Diego we had written 5 songs in 5 days, but this was the one that fit the album the best. I asked our friend Jason Butler from the band letlive. To sing on this song for two reasons. One being that I have a lot of respect and admiration towards him as a singer and as a person. Two being that he is straight edge, and I thought maybe he could relate to the lyrics and topic in some way. Special thanks to Jason for bringing this song to life. "

This song to me means the conflict with inner demons. It's how they can control and hurt others in the path of letting them into the escape. They're tangled and are causing destruction to your loved ones on the way out. That's how I feel when I listen to it, I dunno.
