I've been working on my rewrite, that's right
I'm gonna change the ending
Gonna throw away my title
And toss it in the trash
Every minute after midnight
All the time I'm spending
It's just for working on my rewrite
Gonna turn it into cash

I've been working at the carwash
I consider it my day job
Cause it's really not a pay job
But that's where I am
Everybody says the old guy working at the carwash
Hasn't got a brain cell left since Vietnam

But I say help me, help me, help me, help me
Thank you!
I'd no idea
That you were there
When I said help me, help me, help me, help me
Thank you, for listening to my prayer

I'm working on my rewrite, that's right
I'm gonna change the ending
Gonna throw away my title
And toss it in the trash
Every minute after midnight
All the time I'm spending
Is just for working on my rewrite, that's right
I'm gonna turn it into cash

I'll eliminate the pages
Where the father has a breakdown
And he has to leave the family
But he really meant no harm
Gonna substitute a car chase
And a race across the rooftops
When the father saves the children
And he holds them in his arms

And I say help me, help me, help me, help me
Thank you!
I'd no idea
That you were there
When I said, help me, help me, help me, help me
Thank you, for listening to my prayer

I'd love to break his guitar over his head... This song is annoying. Hey paul, want to rewrite your life?... Eat a bullet!

There have been a lot of times in my life when i said "help me, help me, help me" and i had no idea... But that's the point, so may of us do that and find somehow the universe was listening, and responded. How cool is that! The song itself is a prayer, i guess, and paul thanks us for listening, too.

He's not an author rewriting his script. He's a man wanting to rewrite his life, he's a father who had a breakdown, no one wants to hear that, and he does really want to share that, so he writes that sad parts to be more glamorous and attractive to man, and the people he tells his life story to, and he chooses to leave those parts out, he constantly prays to his father, who is god, "help me, help me... ", then realizes god was always been there helping him...

I had a friend that went to vietnam and came back an alcoholic. Couldn't get a decent job. Married and had a son that he lost contact with. Rich claimed he was a colonel in special forces and went all over the world as a sniper and pilot. I can't prove it, but maybe he rewrote his life to be the way he hoped. He worked pumping gas for a few months. He died of cancer a few years ago - not even 60 years old - never made up with son.
