When i read these lyrics, it sounds like he 's singing to a girl. About boundaries making sure she 's wanting to be with him. The absence && patience makes her stronger. She gets used to it to accept what the guy does. It's basically open for interpretation.
I believe this song is about a Mother and her teenage son who disrespects her but she knows that "One day" he'll understand her and start respecting her.
