Written in these walls are the stories that I can't explain
I leave my heart open but it stays right here empty for days

She told me in the morning she don't feel the same about us in her bones
It seems to me that when I die these words will be written on my stone

And I'll be gone gone tonight
The ground beneath my feet is open wide
The way that I been holdin' on too tight
With nothing in between

The story of my life I take her home
I drive all night to keep her warm and time
Is frozen (the story of, the story of)
The story of my life I give her hope
I spend her love until she's broke inside
The story of my life (the story of, the story of)

Written on these walls are the colors that I can't change
Leave my heart open but it stays right here in its cage

I know that in the morning now
I see us in the light upon a hill
Although I am broken, my heart is untamed still

And I'll be gone gone tonight
The fire beneath my feet is burning bright
The way that I been holdin' on so tight
With nothing in between

The story of my life I take her home
I drive all night to keep her warm and time
Is frozen (the story of, the story of)
The story of my life I give her hope
I spend her love until she's broke inside
The story of my life (the story of, the story of)

And I been waiting for this time to come around
But baby running after you is like chasing the clouds

The story of my life I take her home
I drive all night to keep her warm and time
Is frozen

The story of my life I give her hope
I spend her love until she's broke inside
The story of my life (the story of, the story of)
The story of my life
The story of my life (the story of, the story of)
The story of my life

Thanks for the lyrics! I cried while listening to this song! The boys are definitely growing up and I just can't be more happy and proud of what they have all achieved! The song meant so much to me and Its just so perfect! Their voices totally amazes and everything about them is just incredible! Being a directioner is something I can't ever regret! I just don't get it why people could hate them. Their just living their dream and are being huge inspiration to everyone! I wish the boys the best upon everything! :) love youu boys.

I think this song is about the struggles the guys have gone through in their lives as international pop-stars. I believe that it's about them caring for their fans and wanting to do everything for them but sometimes feeling that they've let them down. This can also apply to caring about anybody or anything so much that you would do anything for them, but at the same time just wishing that you could be free from that responsibility of loyalty and care. Also, this song could just simply be about a boy caring for and loving a girl who doesn't exactly feel the same way about him and that he loves her so much it's just too hard for her to handle and she just lets him go. The narrator feels that this is their fatal flaw, what happens to them all the time, that they become to passionate and love too hard and it all just ends in nothing. This song is hard to decipher and could be interpreted in several ways but overall it is a beautiful and tragic song that has an addicting melody that I love!

Love this song! The depth, the emotions, the solos. These boys did such a great job bringing these lyrics to life, they captured every feeling and delivered it amazingly. Love them.
This song is about memories and love and hurt. It is about a person that doesn't feel the same way anymore and when she says she feels it in her bones he feels like it's the end of life, that those are the last words he will ever remember hearing. Because to him, she is life she's the whole story that's all he wants and to love her so much and show her that nothing else really matters, and keep that moment forever.
The colors on the wall are different emotions and stories and leaving your heart open so you can love again or let someone in, but you can't and it doesn't change because she is the story of his life. He would wait forever, frozen in time. And though he can see her from a distance he can never reach her.

I always "look behind" songs for their meanings and take normal literature as a help to find out. I did the same with "Story of my Life" and came to the conclusion that when they sing "I take her home" the "her" refers to the story of their life, like authors do in their books and stories.
So, maybe the boys are just saying that they are really trying to keep their story good and positive but it breaks in the end because of too many rumours, broken hearts, and so on. "The story of my life I give her hope, I spend her love until she's broke inside."
Many people know that rumours can always break a band or a singer, and I think it's good that 1D are singing about their broken hearts in a song like "Story of my Life" because it just feels so real and personally, I can feel the pain they feel because of all those things that are happening.
This story helps me a lot, not because of personal problems, but more to understand people and life in general.
I really love One Direction, every single one of them, even with their tattoos, flaws and the mistakes they do. I mean, they are human, like every other single person on this world. *

Story Of My Life, what to say about it? There's so much to say. First of all, I think many people can relate to this beautiful song. The things you wish you could change but you can't, the hard struggles, the things you can't explain and people judging you for every step you take. There's so many feelings in this song that they show, and I get teary-eyed thinking of what these boys have done to so many people.
They have saved so many lives just by being themselves, it's literally so amazing that it's almost unbelievavable. I don't think they understand how happy they make me, and they don't even know it. They have helped me through tough things, and if I could just to get to tell them how much they mean, that'd be enough.
