You're building a ship with no sails,
And setting out to brave the open sea.
You're standing for your God,
But becoming something so far off.
Don't you see the irony?

He gave me a train with no tracks.
With no wood to build or burn for steam.
Despite all I lack,
If I derail he'll turn his back,
Don't you see the irony?

If the blind can see You,
And the lame can meet You,
Would the dead embrace You,
If you never gave them the means to believe?
And that makes no sense to me...

He gave me a voice that speaks out,
But paired it with a mind that's filled with doubt.
If I'm to find the sun, I need something more than
Song to pull me from this cave of questioning.
Give me sand to build a home,
And watch all the walls fall on me.
I can't change what I am,
The lions always kill the lambs,
But don't you see the irony?

Don't you see the irony?

If the blind can see You,
And the lame can meet You,
Would the dead embrace You,
If you never gave them the means to believe?
And that makes no sense to me.

Will I... Embrace You? Will You
Ever give me the means to believe?
Answer me, please...

It hurts me so bad to see how misunderstood someone can be. I can relate to him because we are essentially the same in our beliefs or lack thereof. I sometimes walk around with this false belief that "god always makes clear the position of others to the entire world regardless of which walk of life we are in. I must remind myself that he builds screens, nets to catch the debris which translates to others' innate ability to misunderstand and miscomprehend the fabric of another mans' being. Good luck to you out there who are so self righteous in your connection with the lord that actually causes you to divide amongst your fellows rather than come together in understanding.

I don't think that shane wrote this because he is unsaved. You are mis understanding the song.
    Wikipedia states.
"the album also follows two characters, one being an overzealous religious type who feels betrayed that he had devoted his life to god and that god has abandoned him and everything and it drives his faith to unfurl and it reveals that he had a shallow understanding of god. The other character is his daughter, who was a profound atheist, but became proven wrong after being a witness of the battle between god and satan. This delays her questioning christians and why they read god and satan in different, less violent ways than she has just seen them. Towards the end of the album, she finds a group of believers who give her all the answers to her questions. The album then ends with the destruction of the world that is somehow due to everything that has happened. "

Many Christians hated the album "When I am God" because of the name yet their lyrics are far more advanced then they can grasp. They write lyrics containing subjects that most people are afraid to even speak about. In this song its written by an atheist daughter who questions God and faith itself. But the real question is. Don't we all? For every Christian who will struggle with faith. Knowing God exist no matter what age. And just because the band does not write lyrics worshiping does not make them Christian or make them a Satanic band who hates God.
If you can't comprehend that their lyrics are different who are to you judge the band call them non-Christian fakers? Do you understand their lyrics or do you have false stereotypes about all metal?
Their 2nd album was all about God vs Satan. In their final song. God defeats Satan saying "I'll cut off your horns". Does that sound Satanic to any Christian?
Even if your a non-Christian. Their lyrics are very powerful. Relate to them how you want.
I don't care what the older generation of Christians think. I know my limits for music and lyrically. None of their lyrics are about s** drugs money lust etc. Why do people complain? The screams and stereotypes of metal.

@12: 42 The song is actually about an Atheist daughter of Christian man. Micah explained the album's concept in an interview.
The song looks like it's written from the daughter's point of view, and her questioning god and her father's beliefs. It talks about how it's hard to live as god/the bible tells you, when in life "Lions always kill the lambs" or in other words, the bad guys always win. God gave her a train with no tracks or wood build/burn for steam, meaning he gave her life but never told her where to go or what to do. She's confused on what she should belief, and why.

Oh, Sleeper is not a band that makes songs solely praising god or happy subjects. Many songs are written about stories of people with a lack of faith. An even better example was in the last album the song "Son of the Morning" was written entirely from the point of view of Satan mocking God. Yes, they are Christian but they're not afraid to make controversial songs, and that's why their albums are so powerful.
Everyone struggles in life with their beliefs, no one walks around accepting everything they hear or read without questioning it in the back of their heads.

I think this is trying to show us how ironic thigs really are. I mean how 'lions always kill the lambs don't you see the irony', I believe this song was to show how ironicly god moves but always wins. That is whats amazing about god, he made it to where lions usually kill lambs but in his kingdom they work together to serve him, meaning murders and criminals are the lions and we the victims are the lambs, but in gods kingdom we will be working together. And by 'if the blind can see you', its saying the blind can see him in a way we can't, so its like if they can see you, will I ever get to see your perfect face? So I believe that's what those parts mean, of course they don't give me enough room to interpuret the whole song but oh well, god wants us to believe because he showed us, not because of what other people say. God bless, and I love you all. Hope to see you all in heaven with god:)
