What is a youth?
Impetuous fire.
What is a maid?
Ice and desire.
The world wags on

A rose will bloom,
It then will fade
So does a youth.
So does the fairest maid.

Comes a time when one sweet smile
Has it's season for awhile
Then Love's in love with me

Some may think only to marry.
Others will tease and tarry.
Mine is the very best parry,
Cupid he rules us all.

Caper the caper; sing me the song
Death will come soon to hush us along
Sweeter than honey and bitter as gall,
Love is a pass-time that never will pall.
Sweeter than honey and bitter as gall,
Cupid he rules us all.

(20 second flute interlude)

A rose will bloom, it then will fade.
So does a youth.
So does the fairest maid.

It simply shows the meaning of life and how our naive thinking doesn't get us what we want. It shows the beauty of childhood and as we get older everything will fade including us. Like how in the movie you see how Romeo and Juliet's naive thinking gets them nowhere which shows this song is but a moral.

A song about how even the beautifulest of thing eventually fade away. It also challenges the value of love and what true love. How in the context of that time people were married at around 12 years old and women were raised to only concentrate on marrying wealthy men. But love goes way beyond this into something intangible; love is almost like a mental disease. It controls what we think what we do. It is out if our control. There is an abundance of symbolism in this song which us my all in all favourite song which will be played at my wedding
