    During the show Diana pulls out a birthday cake announcing the late son's birthday. Though she doesn't know the son is dead and is having visions of him. The song is the father telling his wife that their son has been dead for many years and she needs to forget about him. Though the father never really grieved the lose of this son which he does in I Am The One (reprise). He's Not Here is the first time the audience realizes the sons not actually there.
