I think this song is about a guy who was friends with benefits with a girl, and when they ended whatever it was they had, he realized that he'd fallen in love with the girl. And he had no intentions of falling for her. ("You get close, I keep my distance").
i think it means...that the guy didnt want to fall for the girl he just wanted "the benifits" but after they broke up he found that he HAD fallen for her like the part when he sings "you get close i keep my distance(he didnt want to get close with her) never thought i would miss this(he fell for her)
I personaly think this song has to do with a break up which was painful to the guy, now that its over he's realizing what hes now missing out on hes realizing after what they did [sex] and other stuff he really fell for her.
Not saying WHO wrote it but I analyze a lot of songs and this is my interpritation of it.
Some guy dated girl, but never really thought about love, was just in it for the fun and sex or whatever.
But one girl he got with changed his mind, and when they broke up, he feels that he really loved her, even though he broke up with her becuase she thought she loved him. He freaked, breaking up with her.
But no other girl has made him feel this way, he finally realizes now that she is gone, that he loves her. And now he feels like dying without her.
