Make his fight
On the hill in the early day
Constant chill deep inside
Shouting gun
On they run
Through the endless grey
On they fight
Are they right
Yes, but who's to say?
For a hill men would kill
Why?
They do not know
Stiffened wounds test their pride
Men of five
Still alive through the raging glow
Gone insane
From the pain that they surely know [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/m/metallica/for_whom_the_bell_tolls.html ]
For whom the bell tolls
Time marches on
For whom the bell tolls
Take a look
To the sky
Just before you die
It's the last time he will
Blackened roar
Massive roar fills the crumbling sky
Shattered goal
Fills his soul with a ruthless cry
Stranger now
Are his eyes to this mystery
He hears the silence so loud
Crack of dawn
All is gone
Except the will to be
Now they see what will be
Blinded eyes to see
For whom the bell tolls
Time marches on
For whom the bell tolls...

The song is about the ernest hemingway book for whom the bell tolls. It tells the story of a young soldier, robert jordan, in the spanish civil war tasked to go behind enemy lines and blow up a bridge. He finds a spy in his camp, kills him before the spy can report to his superiors then steals the spies horse to ride to the bridge and blow it up. He succeeds but as he flees a shell goes off and kills the horse, fatally wounding jordan who is pinned under the horse. He decides that he wont just give up he will protect his friends by shooting at the enemy as they advance, thereby saving his friends life. He fights until his last dying breath or until "the bells toll"

I like to think its about the edmond fitzgerald. There is a book about the ship titled for whom the bell tolls. But i really dont know
I luv this song an its meaning 2 me, it sounds like a soldier at war or military people that giv ther lives for our freedom, no 1 kills for hills, unless its vital in war.
