I want to hold the hand inside you
I want to take a breath that's true
I look to you and I see nothing
I look to you to see the truth
You live your life
You go in shadows
You'll come apart and you'll go black
Some kind of night into your darkness
Colors your eyes with what's not there.

Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you
I think it's strange you never knew

A stranger's light comes on slowly
A stranger's heart without a home
You put your hands into your head
And then it's smiles cover your heart

Fade into you
Strange you never knew
Fade into you

I think it's strange you never knew

I think it's strange you never knew

I think this is about being in love with someone who is pretty messed up, and trying your hardest to connect with them emotionally or mentally, but still not being able to do so. As an end result, you've tried so hard to connect to them that you've sort of faded into them, hence the "fade into you" part of the song. Furthermore, i believe the person whom you have lost yourself in hasn't even realized what's happened, hence the "strange you never knew" part of the song. The person is oblivious to how hard you've been trying, how lost you are, as well as how lost they are.

It's about codependent love. The love you have for another who will never love you as much. The pain of losing yourself trying to make another happy. The pain when you realize you have faded into him. This song resonates through many hearts who have loved and smiled through the hard times and cried through the black times.

This is a haunting song for me. It is what i think of a soul mate, who died in 1986 at age 31. The choices he made put him in a coffin. He always said, "i'll know you, for the rest of my life"--what he didn't say... That it wasn't the rest of my life. It has been a very long, lonely 26 years with out you--gary johnson, carmichael, california.

i think its about a relationship, particularly,a girl who feels that her boyfriends doesnt love her anymore and still pretends to love her,but the girl can feel that there's no love anymore and can see herself drifting away from the guy's sad i can relate to it..

She loves him and he doesn't know, hence " i think it's strange you never knew", like she was sending the signals but he just wasn't getting it. But "then a strangers light comes on slowly"... He meets another girl... "a strangers heart without a home"... Maybe someone who's heart is lost or maybe someone who is emotionally broken & he feels he can "fix" or "provide a home for" metephoriacally speaking, possibly. Anyway he falls in love with the new girl and the old girl is heartbroken over it... Still shocek that "he never knew"...
