I was reborn when I was broken
I wouldn't believe, I wouldn't believe, no
Been thru a storm, no use in hoping
That you would come rescue me
Somehow your love set me free

And I, I can let my life pass me by
Or I can get down and try
Work it all out this lifetime
Work it on out this time
I can let it all pass me by
Or I can get down and try
Work it all out this lifetime lifetime

There was a time when love wasn't chosen
Now I'm just open for more
Now I'm just reaching out for something better
That I had before, girl
There ain't a bottom line in your world

Ooh and I, I can let my life pass me by
Or I can get down and try
Work it all out this lifetime
Work it on out this time

I can let it all pass me by
Or I can just try and try
I can move to the light
Oh if I take it one day at a time (oh I)
Oh spread my love out and fly
Oh I (I can move to the light)
Ooh I can just make you understand
That love is not a fairytale in a melody
If you want it you can have it girl
Maybe you will see maybe you will see (ooh ooh)
Ooh oh oh wo oh
Lifetime lifetime

Repeat chorus
(adlib til end)

This is a brilliant song all around, but especially lyrically. Basically, the song is about him being dumped by a girl, or just going through a terrible breakup, but he still has that slightest bit of hope that maybe she'll come back to him. But somehow in the pain of the breakup, he found inspiration, and realized that, he could sit there and think that the love he felt will never happen again, or he can get back out there and try, even if he thinks its not going to do him any good. That realization gave him a second-wind.

So basically, he is saying he's going to get back out there and try to find love against the storm, but at the same time, he's wishing that he could just talk to his former lover again, and maybe somehow convince her to come back to him. I think he also cares about her so much, that he kinda talks to her about how she should conduct her future relationships, because he just couldn't stand to see her heartbroken, even if it's over someone else.

I believe this song is a man's struggle with love. He seems to have found the one for him but he is still not sure. "He wants some better than what he had before." The lyricists says "there was a time when love wasn't chosen" he fell into love without know why almost with his eyes wide shut. The lyricists say "but Now I am open for more" a relationship founded on love and mutual connection and not founded out of a since of obligation. The lyricists continues and says she makes him want to forget the past she make him want to try "to work it out This Life Time," and that is evident when the song writer says,
"I can let it all pass me by
Or I can just try and try
I can move to the light
Oh if I take it one day at a time (oh I)
Oh spread my love out and fly"
I believe one should not miss out on an opportunity to be happy, and in my opinion that is what the lyricists is wrestling with. (Read the lyrics then watch the video and see what correlations you come up with)

this song is beautiful and so is maxwell. all of his music makes me want 2 cry. this song means he could just sit down on the couch, and give up on life, or he can get out in the real world, and try 2 make something of himself, and make things happen.
