It's only for a moment you are mine to hold
The plans that heaven has for you
Will all too soon unfold
So many different prayers I'll pray
For all that you might do
But most of all I'll want to know
You're walking in the truth
And If I never told you
I want you to know
As I watch you grow

I pray that God would fill your heart with dreams
And that faith gives you the courage
To dare to do great things
I'm here for you whatever this life brings
So let my love give you roots
And help you find your wings

May passion be the wind
That leads you through your days
And may conviction keep you strong
Guide you on your way
May there be many moments
That make your life so sweet
Oh, but more than memories

It's not living if you don't reach for the sky
I'll have tears as you take off
But I'll cheer as you fly

I found this some right before mother's day a few years ago and sang it at our banquet at church. My son is graduating high school this year and i want to record a cd with me singing this song. He still cannot listen to it without crying. I know someday when i'm gone it will really mean something to him. It is an awesome song!!!

It's a parent talking to a child about the fact that they only have them for a short time. After that time the plans god has for them will unfold and their paths may separate and, although it hurts like mad, the parent is giving their best wishes for the child to spread their wings and fly in god's great plan for their life. It's more scary to keep our children from pursuing god's will than it is to let them be free to go for it. During their time with us, it's our responsibility to train them to know the leading of god for themselves and to walk in his ways.

My only child/son will be graduating from cchs (central catholic high school; all boys school) next month. By the grace of god, he is going off to college to case western reserve university (full scholarship). I'll be singing/playing guitar to this song @ our last mother/son liturgy banquet on 5/6/12, during meditation, while each son is passing along a blessed cross to their mom's. This is the 4th and final mother/son banquet we will attend. I can't think of a better fitting song & words that each of us moms & dads are praying for their sons/children. Thank you mark harris for this amazing song; it has truly blessed all of us!!!

All too soon, our children grow up and make their own choices. God has to lead them in the way they need to go, according to his plan for their lives. It is difficult letting go, but letting god have his way is always better. Even when it means separation. Beautiful lyrics! Am praying for all those who need prayer. Who doesn't these days?!
