I can't remember
When I was young
I can't explain
If it was wrong
My life goes on
But not the same
Into your eyes
My face remains

(I've been so high)
I've been so down
(Up to the skies)
Down to the ground

I was so blind
I could not see
Your paradise
Is not for me

Autour de moi
Je ne vois pas
Qui sont des anges
Surement pas moi
Encore une fois
Je suis cassee
Encore une fois
Je n'y crois pas
All around me
I could not see
Who are the angels
Surely not me
Once more again
I am broken
Once more again
I don't believe it

[Chorus:]
I've been so high
I've been so down
Up to the skies
Down to the ground

There is a light
Above my head
Into your eyes
My face remains

[chorus]

I can't remember
When I was young
Into your eyes
My face remains

Into your eyes
My face remains

[chorus, repeat]

Emm this song is not about love and life. Its about death and suicide.
    "i can't remember
    When i was young
    I can't explain
    If it was wrong"
She sings about her past, wondering if she did something wrong.

    "my life goes on
    But not the same
    Into your eyes
    My face remains"

    - she says her lifes goes on, but not the same way. She will remain in other peoples memories

    [i've been so high]
    I've been so down
    [up to the skies]
    Down to the ground

    - the chorus sings "i ve been so high up to the skies" either it means that people are stepping on her grave "i ve been so down", or it means that while people are happy, she is not. She hit the bottom.

    I was so blind
    I could not see
    Your paradise
    Is not for me

    - she is not talking about the religious paradise. But everyones goal in life.. To be alive. To be happy. She tried (i was so blind) to reach same as other people but it was not meant for her.

    All around me
    I could not see
    Who are the angels
    Surely not me

    - this is complicated, since it can have many meanings. Either she saw only bad things, but not the good (angels as metaphor for good).. So she realised she isnt good as well. The second interpretation: she doesnt believe in hope or religion, she doesnt consider it a "crime" to kill herself. This might make more sense since the next part, refers to it.

    Once more again
    I am broken
    Once more again
    I don't believe it

    - she doesnt believe in god or hope, she doesnt function as rest of the society (i am broken)

    There is a light
    Above my head
    Into your eyes
    My face remains

    - obviously she dies (there is a light). She leaves this world, but remains in someones memory. The light is not the hope. The light is death... As "walk into the light"

this is one of my favorite songs by madonna. this song is about love and life, the highest of highs the lowest of lows when it comes to realizing that something or someone that you love is out of reach or that whatever they have to offer is not meant for you, (paradise not for me). Personally i relate to it as loving someone who you know can one day make you happy but realizing that the love they have will not be for you. the light is the hope, and into your eyes is the memory that remains. Not remembering when young is like innocence was lost a long time ago and no knowing if it was worth it.
