Les McCann & Eddie Harris – Compared To What lyrics

I love to lie and lie to love
I'm hangin' on they push and shove
Possession is the motivation
That is hangin' up the goddamn nation
Looks like we always end up in a rut
Everybody now
Tryin' to make it real compared to what

Slaughterhouse is killin' hogs
Twisted children killin' frogs
Poor dumb rednecks rollin' logs
Tired old ladies kissin' dogs
I hate the human love of that stinking mutt
I can't use it
Tryin' to make it real compared to what

President he's got his war
Folks don't know just what it's for
Nobody gives us rhyme or reason
Have one doubt they call it treason
We're chicken feathers
All without one nut goddamn it
Tryin' to make it real compared to what

Church on Sunday sleep and nod
Tryin' to duck the wrath of God
Preachers fillin' us with fright
They all tryin' to teach us what they think is right
They really got to be some kind of nut
I can't use it
Tryin' to make it real compared to what

Where's that bee and where's that honey
Where's my God and where's my money
Unreal values a crass distortion
Unwed mothers need abortion
Kind of brings to mind old young King Tut
He did it now
Tried to make it real compared to what

Tryin' to make it real compared to what

The song is a question. Why are we living by maligned values and not simple morality. We accept murder in the name of war. But how can anyone understand the will of god when we care about money. Our love is all of gods money. Step up to the bong and open your mind. Freewill God will decide not you.

I think that the person who wrote on 11/14, is showing some of the elitism and arrogance that he is complaining about. This person is trying to place his 2014 mindset on a 1960's song. In my opinion this song is pointing out the hypocrisy of America. The contrast between the beliefs and values of what America is supposed to be about versus the actuality or reality of what it is about. The 2014 author is free to give his evaluation of what he feels this song is about but to criticize and try to negate the viewpoints others because they share a different view is the epitome of arrogance. This song is still relevant in 2016.

An insipid ode to cultural Marxism. From smug self satisfied lines about the horrors of slaughtering pigs to the virtues of abortion for unwed mothers. Yep save the pigs kill the human babies, (I wonder if he knows that planned parenthood was founded to "exterminate the black race" as it's founder Margret Sanger said in one of her infamous letters). There are more planned parenthood "clinics" in poor black neighborhoods than any other area in the us now. I guess this idiot would think that's a noble thing though, and helping those poor ignorant unwed mothers. Got to get rid of the useless eaters. Then we have the line about the mean old preacher filling people with fear and the poor dumb rednecks. Yep rage against working class white Christians. More socially acceptable bigotry than you can shake a stick at in this number. This is why, more often than not musicians should stick to playing and stop trying to be political. A winning combination of arrogance, stupidity, phoney elitism and generally muddled thinking. Step away from the bong.
