Leona Lewis – Yesterday lyrics

I just can't believe you're gone,
Still waiting for morning to come
When I see if the sun will rise
And the way that your by my side
When we had so much in store
Tell me what is it all reaching for
When we're through building memories
I'll hold yesterday in my heart, in my heart

[Chorus:]
They can take tomorrow and the plans we made,
They can take the music that we never play
All the broken dreams, take everything,
Just take it away
They can never have yesterday
They can take the future that we'll never know
They can take the places that we said we would go
All the broken dreams take everything
Just take it away
They can never have yesterday

You always choose to stay
I should be thankful for every day
Heaven knows what the future holds
Or at least how the story goes
I never believed until now
I know I'll see you again I'm sure
No it's not selfish to ask for more
One more night one more day
One more smile on your face
But they can't take yesterday

[Chorus:]
They can take tomorrow and the plans we made,
They can take the music that we'll never play
All the broken dreams, take everything,
Just take it away
They can never have yesterday
They can take the future that we'll never know
They can take the places that we said we would go
All the broken dreams take everything
Just take it away
They can never have yesterday

[Chorus:]
I thought our days would last for ever
But it wasn't our destiny
'Cause in my mind we had so much time
But I was so wrong
No I can believe that
I can still find the strength in the moments we made
I'm looking back on yesterday

[Chorus:]
They can take tomorrow and the plans we made,
They can take the music that we never play
All the broken dreams, take everything,
Just take it away
They can never have yesterday
They can take the future that we'll never know
They can take the places that we said we would go
All the broken dreams take everything
Just take it away
They can never have yesterday

It's been a year since this song released but I still love this. When you started listening the intro of it. You'll just find yourself listening to it. Listen. And listen all over again. Sometimes it made me cry and realize that every second you've spend to the people you loved are important. We don't know if it will last forever or not. This Song was true and it happens to all of people. It's just that we don't see the importance of one thing if you'll not lose it first. But when you lost it, It so hard to make it back again. The smiles and all the happy moments you've shared together. I always remember the times that when I'm down then suddenly there's someone who will make me stand up and smile again. But now. There's no one beside me. And that's really awful. People have different experience about this, but We are all the same in terms of the word "BROKEN".

I've loved this song for over a yr and it just dawned on me that its a song about breaking up. It always reminded me of my grandma and grandpa. This whole time I thought it had to do with losing someone that's died, probably based on the part.
I should be thankful for everyday, heaven knows what the future holds or at least how the story goes, I never believed it till now, I know i'll see you again I'm sure no its not selfish to ask for more one more night one more day one more smile on your face but they can't take yesterday.
I thought it meant I should be thankful for the time we had, that I never believed they would die but god knew what our future held, that I wish I could spend just one more day with them, but even though they are gone nothing could take the memories they gave me.

I know that this song is about breaking up, but it still remnds me of and my boyfriend who lives in a different city. He is where I live for the whole summer and I really don't know what I'm going to do when he has to go home. So this just makes me think that people can take the next days that we could have together but they can't have the days we have already shared.

I think that she is talking about how hard it is to let go of the guy she is still in love with and can't imagine life without. She keeps looking back to the memories she had with him before they broke up. Most importantly, she is saying that even though it is over and all of his tangible belongings are gone, the memories they had he can't and won't take away.
