My girl, my girl, don't lie to me
Tell me where did you sleep last night
In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun don't ever shine
I would shiver the whole night through
My girl, my girl, where will you go
I'm going where the cold wind blows
In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun don't ever shine
I would shiver the whole night through
Her husband, was a hard working man
Just about a mile from here
His head was found in a driving wheel
But his body never was found
My girl, my girl, don't lie to me
Tell me where did you sleep last night
In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun don't ever shine
I would shiver the whole night through
My girl, my girl, where will you go
I'm going where the cold wind blows
In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun don't ever shine
I would shiver the whole night through
My girl, my girl, don't lie to me
Tell me where did you sleep last night
In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun don't ever shine
I would shiver the whole night through
My girl, my girl, where will you go
I'm going where the cold wind blows
In the pines, in the pines
Where the sun don't ever shine
I would shiver the whole night through

Neither of those are correct, it is from at least the 1870's, African american folk song, with over 100 something variations of lyrics, each with different means, some entirely different stories. Lead belly's version sings "black girl, black girl, done lie to..." not "my girl, my girl" ect. Though nirvana sung it well, it does not mean they sung the original.

Perhaps it's about a women being accused of murdering her husband and the people are asking her what her allaby was... Or perhaps she was found an adulturess and now shes being accused of killing her husband for finding out.

The song is about a racist murder. Her husband was murdered and his body was buried because he was black and his wife was chased but she got away only to freeze to death in a pine forest. It's a true story of a murder from the 1920's i think.
