When I was a little bitty baby
My mama would rock me in the cradle
In them old cotton fields back home
It was down in Louisiana
Just a mile from Texarkana
In them old cotton fields back home [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/l/leadbelly/cotton_fields.html ]
It may sound a little funny
But you didn't make very much money
In them old cotton fields back home
It may sound a little funny
But you didn't make very much money
In them old cotton fields back home
Oh when those cotton balls get rotten
You can't pick you very much cotton
In them old cotton fields back home
It was down in Louisiana
Just a mile from Texarkana
In them old cotton fields back home
I was over in Arkansas
People ask me what you come here for
In them old cotton fields back home
I was over in Arkansas
People ask me what you come here for
In them old cotton fields back home

My dad would tell me about working in the cotton fields looking out at the highway wishing he could get out of there. He had to work as a half share till he got old enough to carry a full load. His dad died with the flu when he was 2 and grandma raised him and seven brothers and sisters working on someone else land in 1930's.
