Lalah Hathaway – When Your Life Was Low lyrics

Always remember my friend,
The world will change again.
And you may have to come back
Through everywhere you've been.

When your life was low,
You had nowhere to go.
People turned their backs on you,
And everybody said that you were through.

I took you in, made you strong again
Put you back together.
Out of all the dreams you left along the way,
You left me shining.

Now you're doing well
From stories I hear tell.
You own the world again.
Everyone's your friend.

Although I never hear from you,
Still it's nice to know
You used to love me so,
When your life was low.

I took you in. I made you strong again.
I put you back together.
Out of all the dreams you left along the way,
You left me shining

Now you're doing well
From stories I hear tell.
You own the world again.
Everyone's your friend.

Although I never hear from you,
Still it's nice to know
You used to love me so,
You used to love me so,
When your life was low.

But always remember my friend,
The world will change again.
And you may have to come back
Through everywhere you've been.
The world will change again.

This is a story of two people who knew each other well during their younger years and then later became lovers and soul mates. However due to uncontrollable situations could never remain together. But maybe only one remained the lover with the possibility of hope to meet the other sometime. And become lovers again.

It's the old cliche, "if u love something, let it go. If it comes back to u. It's yours... If it doesn't, it never was" it's the story of loving someone and helping them get back on their feet again. Letting them go to shine & watching them be who they were meant to be. The person that you knew they could be but perhaps they couldn't be with you. Wishing the best for them, but hoping that maybe, your path would cross again.

That's not what this means at all. This is a criticism of a person who, when down on his luck needed his woman who stood up, provided, made him whole, gave him love, strength, and courage to face the worked again. She helped to heal him. Once whole, he left, never to be heard from again and she is warning him of karma. Also, as there was a time when he needed help, he may need it again some day and have to return to the very people he treated so poorly, namely her. Although she appreciates having known love with/by/from him and remembers how great it was; even as she is happy for him and his getting his life back on track, she reconciles her pain with gratitude and warns him of the possibility of everything going to shit again for him. She warns that he may have to face the people he moved away from with need again and it may not be there for him.
