Picking up the pieces in the world I know
With one in the fire and one in the snow
It's a comeback story of a lifetime
A comeback story of a lifetime
Been told believing everything is alright
I break with the day and I've been with the night
It's a comeback story of a lifetime
A comeback story of a lifetime
I walk a mile in your shoes
And now I'm a mile away
And I've got your shoes

The brighter the lights they're burning out
Everyone says it a lovely sound
I don't know where they're leaving me
Trying my best hoping that you'll see
I walk a mile in your shoes
And now I'm a mile away
And I've got your
I walk a mile in your shoes
And now I'm a mile away
And I've got your shoes

You'll rule the day when you understand
I did my best to be an honest man
Race isn't over to the finish line
It's a comeback story of a lifetime
I walk a mile in your shoes
And now I'm a mile away
And I've got your shoes
Now I'm a mile away
And I've got your shoes
Now I'm a mile away

Personally, I think the song is about a relationship that has either ended or is on the verge of ending, he's tried to figure out what he did wrong. ' I break with the day and I've been with the night' - By this he means the night is almost his escape, when day comes its almost to hard to face the reality of the relationship being over so he 'breaks' as such. 'With one in fire and one in snow' - This could show that the breakup has not broken even; it has been less painful for one person; one is cold and bitter whilst the other is burning in pain or anger. By 'been with the night' this could also mean he has slept around in attempt to break away from the relationship and the hold his ex partner clearly had on him. 'I walk a mile in your shoes' - This is him trying to figure out things from her perspective, we see walking a mile as quite a distance on foot, emphasising his desperation to see things as she sees them. However this contradicts with the next line 'And now I'm a mile away'. It seems that in the process of trying to find the answers either she has pushed him away or he has just naturally fallen away. 'And I've got your shoes' - We can almost see this as a question - 'what am I supposed to do now? I've got your shoes'. This shows his uncertainty concerning his standing with the relationship, he is far away but a part of her is always with him and he doesn't know what to do with it now. 'Race isn't over to the finish line' We can see this as him almost reasoning with not only his partner/ex but himself, a little glimmer of hope remains. 'Comeback story' could be seen as him getting back with his partner or him making a comeback and getting over his ex.
