One two…

On the field I remember you were incredible
Hey shut up hey shut up yeah
On the field I remember you were incredible
Hey shut up hey shut up yeah

On the match with the boys, you think you're alone
With the pain that you drain from love
In a car with a girl promise me she's not your world
Cos' Andy you're a star

Get down...

Leave your number on the locker and I'll give you a call
Hey shut up hey shut up yeah
Leave your legacy in gold on the plaques that line the hall
Hey shut up hey shut up yeah

On the street such a sweet face jump in town
In the staff when the verdict is in
In a car with a girl promise me she's not your world
Cos' Andy you're a star in nobody's eyes but mine

Andy you're a star in nobody's eyes but mine
Andy you're a star in nobody's eyes but mine
Andy you're a star in nobody's eyes
In nobody's eyes but mine.

It was made by Brandon Flowers, a boy in Juab High School, now a member of The Killers. He made this song about Andy Messersmith, a classmate who bullied him through high school. Andy was a jock and Brandon was the kid that all the jocks gave a hard time. None of them knew that he would become a Rock Star, especially Andy. Andy later became a teacher at Juab. He has, within the last few years moved from Juab to Uintah, where he currently coaches wrestling and teaches Health and Physical Education. The Seniors among the school will warn you to not sing, play or mention this song, as it has seemed to torture him and mentioning it will only cut the wounds afresh and put you in trouble's way. Kids have been suspended for taunting Mr. Messersmith with this song. Some have said that Andy stole a girl from Brandon in High School and that she was the girl Brandon alluded to. Perhaps this is true. In the end, the meaning of this song from someone who attends Uintah and does his research is that Andy Messersmith was all that and a bag of chips (Incredible on the field and alone in the match with the boys or someone who would have people write their numbers on his locker to wait in line for him to call them), then he became little more than a school teacher and a coach, while Brandon is now a Rock Star who lives the life. This was Brandon Flowers' showing of the result of Andy's life choices. Don't make fun of a kid, because some day, he may be a rock star capable of showing the world the real you, via the best method of communication - Music. (Cause' Andy, You're a Star in nobody's eyes but mine) It is little surprise that Andy Messersmith rues so both the surface-level and deeper meanings of this song. Thanks. It really is a sad story, but it speaks for countless tales of raging testosterone, poor choices, dreams damaged and lives dramatically tainted, sometimes to the point of no return or recovery. May we all endeavor to not become like Andy.
