She was a pyramid
But with him she's just a grain of sand
This love's too strong like mice and men
Squeezing out the life that should be let in

She was a hurricane-cane-cane-cane
But now she's just a gust of wind
She used to set the sails of a thousand ships
Was a force to be reckoned with

She could be a statue of liberty
She could be a Joan of Arc
But he's scared of the light that's inside of her
So he keeps her in the dark

Oh, she used to be a pearl... Ohh
Yeah, she used to rule the world... Ohh
Can't believe she's become a shell of herself
'Cause she used to be a pearl

She was unstoppable
Moved fast just like an avalanche
But now she's stuck deep in cement
Wishing that they'd never ever met

She could be a statue of liberty
She could be a Joan of Arc
But he's scared of the light that's inside of her
So he keeps her in the dark

Oh, she used to be a pearl... Ohh
Yeah, she used to rule the world... Ohh
Can't believe she's become a shell of herself
'Cause she used to be a -

Do you know that there's a way out,
There's a way out
There's a way out
There's a way out

You don't have to be held down,
Be held down
Be held down
Be held down

'Cause I used to be a shell
Yeah, I let him rule my world
My world, ohh, yeah

But I woke up and grew strong
And I can still go on
And no one can take my pearl

You don't have to be shell, No
You're the one that rules your world, ohh
You are strong and you'll learn
That you can still go on

And you'll always be a pearl

She is unstoppable

I really really love this song. This song for me means that a girl feels that she is the superior of all but every time she is with his boy, she's a girl of a low degree in the community. I love this song.

the guy is manipulative. he wants his way into her. he talks his way into her. he gets his way with her. she feels entrapped with him. he is controlling. she loses her self confidence. she's got her worth feeling like its broken into halves and pieces. she feels less precious of herself. BUT she gets up again and decide to rule her world by acting responsible for her self worth and gain confidence. BACK UP! You go girl. You're a pearl.

This song is amazing. It's heartfelt. I know plenty of people who think Katy's songs are stupid or pointless, this can prove them wrong. It's inspiring. If this song doesn't touch you at least once you need some help. I love this song! Again, almost cried first time I heard it. It brings up self confidence.

I love this song. The meaning for me is a confident woman who knew who she was and lived life to the fullest and fell in love with a man who was insecure and scared that he didn't have what it took to keep her so instead he tried to dim her light by abusing her and trying to make sure she was as insecure and unsure of herself as he was. Abusive men who are insecure try to make it feel like they are your only option.
