Purple Haze lyrics

My latest thinking is that this is a "love" song and refers to the power of love to mess up his mind and life ("acting funny and i don't know why"). She put a real heavy spell on him and he's defenceless and lost ("help me"). This line of thought would make "purple haze" an upbeat version of the blues, purple instead of blue.

My other thought was that drugs like lsd would be expected to make him act funny and kiss the sky, but "love" doing it would come as a surprise and might not be so obvious. So his not being able to know the cause would more likely be "the mystery of love".

When i first heard the song i though that drugs were the cause of his purple haze, and "she" referred to lsd. Is purple haze a drug related term?
