You only stay with me in the morning
You only hold me when I sleep
I was meant to tread the water
But now I've gotten in too deep

For every piece of me that wants you
Another piece backs away

You give me something
That makes me scared alright
This could be nothing
But I'm willing to give it a try
Please give me something
Because someday I might know my heart

You only waited up for hours
Just to spend a little time alone with me
And I can say I've never bought you flowers
I can't work out what they mean

I never thought that I'd love someone
That was someone else's dream

You give me something
That makes me scared alright
This could be nothing
But I'm willing to give it a try
Please give me something
Because someday I might call you from my heart

But it might be a second too late
And the words that I could never say
Are gonna come out anyway

You give me something
That makes me scared alright
This could be nothing
But I'm willing to give it a try
Please give me something

You give me something
That makes me scared alright
This could be nothing
But I'm willing to give it a try
Please give me something
Because someday I might know my heart

Know my heart, know my heart, know my heart

I think the girl gives more and receives less than what she has given. It's not that the guy does not love her, it's just that the love she's given is not reciprocated with the same level. I think the guy is not yet ready, or maybe he's still not that certain regarding matters concerning the heart. But he's acknowledge the fact though, that love is indeed existing. All he's asking for is time. Did I get it right? ^^

From experience, I think this song means. He is a womanizer who hasn't been looking to find the girl of his dreams because he doesn't dream about falling in love. She is a friend who has really gotten to know him and has fallen in love with him, but hasn't admitted it, keeps it hidden because she doesn't want to be another one of his girls. He is falling for her but isn't sure since he has never loved a girl before, only messed around. He is afraid to say something to become a couple because he isn't sure how she feels or how to be the person she needs. He likes the way he feels and wants to try it out, to see if he loves her, but he wants her to let him know if that's what she wants.

I love to make stories out of songs. This one for me is about two best friends who fell in love with each other but the girl is already or dating with someone else. They love each other but afraid to admit it. After realizing things, the boy wants to try to confess to the girl how he feels for her. He's maybe scared but is now willing to accept what might result from this confrontation.

In my prospective about this song is that you give somone wht they want and wht they want is you. You can give a mintue, day or maybe evan a lifetime to give the person you love your love. It's never to late you complete someone it may not seem like it but you do and love them back the way they love you. Be open to anything and everything that shows up on your doorstep. Don't give up and be willing to give it a try. :)
