Tell me which side I'm on
Approaching constant failure
Tell me which side I'm on
(Who is friend or foe? )
Approaching constant failure
Between love and hate
Which path to follow?
How can I keep balance in this race?
Come faith, I'm dying (slowly)
In many ways I'm the burden that devides us from the light
In many ways you're the halo that keeps my spirit alive [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/i/in_flames/the_chosen_pessimist.html ]
Temptation
Play the good or evil part
With me, you evoke the dark
Erase the free will and watch me heal
Tell me which side I'm on
Approaching constant failure
Between love and hate
Which path to follow?
How can I keep balance in this race?
Come faith, I'm dying...
Amused by the trials and tribulations
If I survive I fly from here
But as the chosen pessimist
I carve my name in stone
I carve my name in stone
Amused by the trials and tribulations
If I survive I fly from here
How can I keep balance in this race?
Come faith I'm dying...
The way i see it is.. This person is caught up in an internal struggle. His struggle is obviously between good and evil. He does good but it seems that the good done is futile. So, he resorts to bad and now he doesn't know himself. He needs someone who feels the same to keep him sane and help direct him.
This is what i'm thinking is the overall meaning of the song.
He's tired of making the wrong choices - tired of failure, and he's given up trying on his own. He feels he's too far down the wrong path now. He's asking, begging for redemption, for someone to lift him up and out of the dark hole he's in.
This person, however, is not god - this is not about religion. "with me, you evoke the dark? "
definitely not god...
I think it's more about being a "born" pessimist. That he only sees the negative parts of live and how it is making him hated or unloved in society. I also think the song is about what really is wrong or bad, and why things that someone might enjoy isn't allowed or legal, which makes a person doubt his sanity:)
Dont you think that he's talking about a girl? Would mean he live for her(or because he love her). Well dont need to explain you wat it is ;) also, he's saying > that mean he as already been with the person since he know what its doing to be with ''her'' so it can't be god like theundefinable said. But this girl obviously dont love him so it could maybe explain the > (love or hate her) and would mean that this choice is killing him ?
I think it's
"come faith undying"
not
"come faith, i'm dying"
Also "bemused" not "amused" ^^
Basically, to me this song is about a man struggling to keep balance between good and evil, not sure which path to take because all he gets is constant failures as a result of the trials and tribulations :p so he needs something to show him the right way, a faith undying.
Well to me the song seems to be about a man that doesnt know if he is on the wrong or right path of life. Hes praying to god to help him find the right path. "between love and hate... Which path to follow? ". "in many ways i'm the burden that devides us from the light. " hes lacking faith and it is tearing him from the lord, "in many ways you're the halo that keeps my spirit alive" but somehow the lord is keeping his faith and spirit alive. "temptation play the good or evil part" he doesnt know if what he is doing is good or bad. "come faith i'm dying... " he praying for an answer cause his faith is failing. Great song, it really spoke to me.
Hes saying life is a race you have to keep up with yourself before you lose your self and its a challeng you dont know your real friends and the person who you think hates you might love you to death but life is a race and he seems to be falling behind
Also it says amused by the trials and tribulations
hes just saying that all in all lifes hard stay on the good path dont fall behind
