Fifteen cars and fifteen restless riders
Three conductors twenty-four sacks of mail
All along the southbound odyssey the train rolls out of Kankakee
Rolls along past houses farms and fields
Passin' trains that have no names switchyards full of old black men
Of graveyards full of rusted automobiles

It is self explanatory,it rues the demise of steam powered engines,and brings back the memory of a past era of easygoing life when everything didn't have to be done at a hundrd miles an hour. Great song,Great memories.
