Henry Mancini – Charade lyrics

When we played our charade
We were like children posing
Playing at games, acting out names
Guessing the parts we played

Oh what a hit we made
We came on next to closing
Best on the bill, lovers until
Love left the masquerade

Fate seemed to pull the strings
I turned and you were gone
While from the darkened wings
The music box played on

Sad little serenade
Song of my heart's composing
I hear it still, I always will
Best on the bill

In the 1950s when in High School on Friday nights a group of us would get together in one of our homes and we would play the game Charades. As I remember it in the game you have two sides. One side will name a topic. Then the other side has to guess the topic based upon one of its team members acting out and trying to convey to their team what the topic is.

This fits in perfectly with the theme of the Movie Charade. Audrey Hepburn is caught in a confusing game of Charades in that all of the actors are playing their parts. When I hear the song it sure "takes-me-back" to our Friday evening games of Charades. The words to the song fit in just perfectly.
