I love this song! I love the lyrics and their clarity as far as metal goes.
Haste the Day is a "Christian band", and its lyrics reflect that title with a certainty that few other Christcore bands can.
Ok, the song.
When I read and listen to the lyrics of this song my mind goes straight to the topic of temptation. So here's my opinion:
"The tension" relates to temptation and is caused by "the voices of the lost" which are people of this world and maybe even demons that would tempt you. "The fire", or the pressure to give in to that temptation, acts on "your dark side" which relates to the sin nature that all people have.
Walls closing in and the floor disappearing simply outline hard times when the pressure (or "fire") is most intense.
Resolve is the conviction that Christians have to overcome that temptation.
Touching the hands to water and placing them on "the fire" is symbolic of putting it out. The "water" is the strength that Jesus Christ offers us. In this (strength) we must put our faith. The result is the "fire going out"
I think that the stanza of "light the torch" just relates to seeing the "fire" around you. It says that the "fire closes in around you" and this relates back to the walls closing in and the floor disappearing.
"Our lives hang on to the words you have spoken and we wait for our God to return" Awesome line. Refers to our faith as we wait for the second coming of Jesus Christ.
"Lift your hands to heaven, let your heart be incased in flames" I this line uses fire differently that the other passages. "Heart encased in flames" is the passion and conviction that we have while waiting.
I think that pretty much covers it... if anyone feels like I hung too much Christian symbolism on this song, I'm not sorry :P.
