Green Day – Boulevard Of Broken Dreams lyrics

I walk a lonely road
The only one that I have ever known
Don't know where it goes
But it's home to me and I walk alone

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of broken dreams
Where the city sleeps

And I'm the only one and I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk a...

My shadow's only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone

Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, aah-ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah

I'm walking down the line
That divides me somewhere in my mind
On the border line of the edge
And where I walk alone

Read between the lines
What's fucked up and everything's all right

Check my vital signs to know I'm still alive
And I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk alone

I walk alone
I walk a...

My shadow's only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone

Ah-ah, ah-ah, ah-ah, aah-ah
Ah-ah, ah-ah

I walk alone
I walk a

I walk this empty street
On the Boulevard of broken dreams

Where the city sleeps
And I'm the only one and I walk a

My shadow's only one that walks beside me
My shallow heart's the only thing that's beating
Sometimes I wish someone out there will find me
Till then I walk alone

The first verse says he walks a lonely road, which is the only road he's ever known. He doesn't know where it goes, but to him it's home, and he's alone. I think this 'road' actually symbolizes his lifetime. Seeing as where he doesn't know where the road goes, that means be doesn't know where he will end up in the course of his life. Him saying he's alone means throughout the start of his life, he didn't have many friends, or just people to be with. But, saying it is home to him is saying he is starting to get comfortable with the isolation.

The second verse says this street is empty, implying he could be walking towards nothing, and his life could mean nothing. He calls this road a Boulevard of Broken Dreams, saying he could have had someone important in his life, but eventually left him when he actually cared for them, thus making a broken dream. This boulevard is where the city sleeps. Cities usually have many many people, but seeing as there's no one there, this says the man feels completely isolated from everything and everyone.

In the third verse, he goes on to say his shadow is the only one with him, and his shallow heart is the only thing beating. This explains further and further on how completely alone he feels. But the important thing in this verse is what he says next. He wishes someone out there would find him. This says many things: For one, this says that even though he feels so isolated and alone, he does want someone there with him. He wishes someone would find him, and help him. But notice how he says 'sometimes'. This means this is only an occasional thought. He only sometimes wishes to be accompanied, but still feels perfectly comfortable alone.

In the fourth verse, we know he starts thinking more and more about finding someone, because he says he's walking on the border line. That border line divides somewhere in his mind, specifically his two biggest thoughts: being with someone, and being alone. He has such an enormous conflict between the two thoughts that he can't decide, because the choice he makes will determine the outcome of his life, which is why these two thoughts create a border on the road, A.K.A. his life.

In the fifth verse, notice something different about this verse? This is the only verse where the man seems to speaking directly to someone, telling them to read between the lines, and check to see if he's still alive. He feels he finally might have found someone, and because he's so isolated, he wants others to know that there's more to him than meets the eye. He wants people to know that even though he's so isolated, lifeless, and alone, he's still going. He wants others to know he is alive, he does want to be with someone.

FINAL SUMMARY: This is a man who no one really cared about. The one time he was cared about, the one time he cared about someone, he was rejected. Filled with sadness, he abandoned his life. He stopped caring about others, he isolated himself, he made himself unnoticeable because he wanted to be alone. Then he starts having a change of heart. He wants to find someone to care about, but due to his worries of being betrayed again, he pushed those thoughts down. Those desires to be with someone grew and grew until he was torn apart by the two options, a choice he was being forced to make. Then he has a glimpse. A tiny chance that he might be cared about. A single person sparks his hopes. He tells this person that even though he may seem lifeless, he lets that one person know not to give up on him. He doesn't know if he can trust this person yet, but wants to give them a chance.

So this is what kind think. I might have overthought some of it, but this is what's think about this song.

This song I believe might be a christian song and he's talking about how his life is nothing but a boulevard of broken dream and when he says sometimes I wish someone out there will find me (in the chorus) he means for Jesus to find him. But that's just a theory.
