It's alright for some but not alright for me
When the one that I'm lovin' slips around
You think it's fine to do things I cannot see
And you're doin' it to me
Baby can't you see that I know how it is
I can see it in your eyes and feel it in the way you kiss my lips
I can hear it in your voice whenever we are talking like this
I can see what you believe in when his name is mentioned and I die
I can watch the way you walk, the way you talk, the way you close your eyes
It's alright for some but not alright for me
When the one that I'm lovin' can't be found
The city where we live might be quite large
But the circle is small
Why not tell us all and then all of us will know [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/g/gordon_lightfoot/the_circle_is_small.html ]
I can see it in your eyes and feel it in the way you kiss my lips
I can hear it in your voice whenever we are talking like this
I can see what you believe in when his name is mentioned and I die
I can watch the way you walk, the way you talk, the way you close your eyes
It's alright to leave but not alright to lie
When you come home and you can't say where you've been
You think it's fine to do things I cannot see
And you're doin' it to me
Baby can't you see that I know how it is
I can see it in your eyes and feel it in the way you kiss my lips
I can hear it in your voice whenever we are talking like this
I can see what you believe in when his name is mentioned and I die
I can watch the way you walk, the way you talk, the way you close your eyes
When we go through the heartaches of our lives, particularly the events of other's poor choices, we ask god why we are going through heartaches. We just can't understand the lies of infidelity. This was true for me when i came home from bosnia in 1998. My ex left and has since alienated me from our children. Three years later i was in a divorce after 30 chat room under the direction of my therapist. Long story short, i met the love of my life. We were married 12 years ago today. Gordon lightfoot is one of my wife's familys favorite singers. In 2005 my older brother in law caught his wife with his best friend after 25 years of marriage. I've been helping him deal with the heartache because i have experience. He helps me when i have trouble dealing with the unknowns about my now adult children by singing songs to me by gordon. I found this song and he played it for me and we wept together. Then gave thanks to god that we have eachother and our beautiful wives. To passify the wives we got out chicago's cd and played if she would have been faithful. Then all four of us wept. Thank god for gordon!

This song, on an album i bought in 1978, made no impact upon me until i heard it anew. It made this 57 year old man weep to i think of the pain i caused the husband of a woman with whom i recently had an affair. The pain of this betrayal is devastating to me, my wife, and this poor guy. To anyone considering "just looking," i appeal to you not to do it. Nothing about an affair is worth the incredible hurt i caused. I beg you, please heed this warning.

He is still inlove with her and he feels she is involved with someone (possibly a person within their circle of friends) he wants her to come clean, so he can move on.
