Holy water cannot help you now
A thousand armies couldn't keep me out
I don't want your money
I don't want your crown
See I've come to burn
Your kingdom down

Holy water cannot help you now
See I've come to burn your kingdom down
And no rivers and no lakes, can put the fire out
I'm gonna raise the stakes; I'm gonna smoke you out

Seven devils all around you
Seven devils in my house
See they were there when I woke up this morning
I'll be dead before the day is done

Seven devils all around you
Seven devils in your house
See I was dead when I woke up this morning,
And I'll be dead before the day is done
Before the day is done

And now all your love will be exorcised
And we will find your saints to be canonized
And it's an even sum
It's a melody
It's a battle cry
It's a symphony

Seven devils all around you
Seven devils in my house
See, they were there when I woke up this morning
And I'll be dead before the day is done

Seven devils all around you
Seven devils in your house
See I was dead when I woke up this morning,
And I'll be dead before the day is done
Before the day is done
Before the day is done
Before the day is done

They can keep me alive
'Til I tear the walls
'Til I slave your hearts
And they take your souls
And what have we done?
Can it be undone?
In the evil's heart
In the evil's soul

Seven devils all around you
Seven devils in your house
See I was dead when I woke up this morning
I'll be dead before the day is done
Before the day is done

Florence welch said she got this idea of seven devils from a quote in a book called "if he hollers let him go" by chester himes. The quote was "i woke up with seven devils in me. " she said she liked the quote and just wrote her song. "
I personally doubt that this is the wholly true given the esoteric content of her music, but whatever she may have had in mind while writing this song, my personal interpretation remains the same. I listen to this song and I hear a tragedy. She has been betrayed by her loved one(s) and now she seeks vindication. Her life is forfeit either by cruel fate or by design(though if by design, then whose? Her's or another's?). Whatever wrongs have been done her are irreparable and she is out for blood. No one and nothing will stop her. It's a song of fate.

I think that the devils are somehow trying to work with her that's why she made the song "shake i out" and now thi one which is so obvious! This devil is tying to control her! I don't know what's their love and exorcised that's realeasing an evil spirit and if she doesn't realease him soon she will have trouble "and ill be dead before the day is done" "they can keep me alive" are the devils but she can't listen to them she ha to refuse it or she would have trouble. "and they take your souls" she is obviously talking about the devils and maybe they took her soul and she released the evil spirit. "and what have we done? Can it be undone? In the evil's heart in the evil's soul" what they "devils" have done "contolled her" can it be undone "because they have to regret it cause she realeasd the devils "seven deadly sins" in the evil's heart in the evil's soul "the devils".

I'm tired of everybody saying illuminati this, illuminati that. Before the illuminati started trending as a topic religious people gave their opinions, now they can't finish without saying 'entertainment' and 'illuminati'. I just wonder why you still go ahead and download her songs when its 'illuminati' aren't we jolly hypocrites? Or this is just too-good-be-ignored illuminati entertainment. I laugh y'all. Anyway lets focus on the song, nice song but the instrumental wasn't as good as I wanted.

I might be the only one thinking this but for me it's about the people controlling the world. The evil often portrayed as the illuminate, the devil worshipers, the elite etc. She says I don't want your money, I don't want your crown (think of winning the oscars or making the cover of a magazine). "i've come to burn your kingdom down", she is fighting against the elite who control society, hollywood, the papers etc. "and they take your souls, what have we done". She is referring to us as a people not doing anything to fight against tyranny. We are like sheep, living our lives around "evil". "seven devils (seven sins) all around you". Basically it's all around us and we are like dead people, barely living our lives from the time we wake up to the time we go to bed. "and what have we done, can it be undone? ". We just let it happen, is it too late to make change? I could go on and on. This is just my interpretation so I might be wrong but this sounds right to me. There are a lot of artist talking about the devil as the secret societies who are well known to have infiltrated every aspect of our lives.

It means that she is so full of anger and the need to seek revenge that she will not stop at any cost until her enemy is defeated in the worst way possible. She sees this retribution as a beautiful thing. It evens her score of pain, 1 to 1. She will go to sleep at night and wake up every morning with this fire-like anger until her mission is accomplished.
