I linger in the doorway
An alarm clock screaming,
Monsters calling my name.
Let me stay
Where the wind will whisper to me,
Where the raindrops
As they're falling tell a story.
(Chorus)
In my field of paper flowers,
And candy clouds of lullaby.
I lie inside myself for hours,
And watch my purple sky fly over me. [ Lyrics from: http://www.lyricsmode.com/lyrics/e/evanescence/imaginary.html ]
Don't say I'm out of touch
With this rampant chaos - your reality.
I know well what lies beyond my sleeping refuge.
The nightmare
I built my own world to escape.
(Chorus)
In my field of paper flowers,
And candy clouds of lullaby
I lie inside myself for hours,
And watch my purple sky fly over me.
Swallowed up in the sound of my screaming.
Cannot cease for the fear of silent nights.
Oh! How I long for the deep-sleep dreaming
The Goddess of imaginary light.
(Chorus)
In my field of paper flowers,
And candy clouds of lullaby
I lie inside myself for hours,
And watch my purple sky fly over me.
A world thats her own, away from society and judgement. A world she wishes was real but she knows can't last forever. But she makes paper flowers so that it can last forever in itself, because even though its not the real thing, it will be eternally hers.

It's not literal paper flowers. The song is about an escape from reality, going into your dreams where you're safe from whatever is hurting you in reality.
This song may be about schizophrenia. The descriptions and the way she talks show some symptoms such as a field of paper flowers, candy clouds, how she says she is accused of being out of touch with reality etc. I love this song though!
Quick question. I always thought this song was really meaningful and sad and beautiful at the same time (if that's possible) but i wanted to know if the words "paper flowers" had a hidden meaning or if in the song, she really meant literal paper flowers. I'm just wondering.
I love this song because i can relate to it, wanting to go to my own world and be away from society and the judgment of others. To leave the chaos of the nightmare called reality. Evanescence is one of my favorite bands because their lyrics are always so meaningful to me.
She goes into a world that she created becasue of what the world was really like and she goes 2 her world when she wants 2 get away evn though she knows its not real
