Don Moen – God With Us lyrics

He walked where I walked
He stood where I stand
He felt what I feel
He understands
He knows my frailty
Shared my humanity
Tempted in every way
Yet without sin

God with us
So close to us
God with us Emmanuel

One of a hated race
Stung by the prejudice
Suffering injustice
Yet he forgives
Wept for my wasted years
Paid for my wickedness
He died in my place
That I might live

God not just with us but in us. He is within, and it is this union that gives us so much joy, when he died for me that was wonderful, but what stops me going away and continue to be the same, maybe a little more resolve and gratitude wont change me one bit because I know my resolve could never save me. What has changed is that his death. As the last adam was the death of all men, my death, as paul says in galatians. I have been crucified with christ, nevertheless I live yet not I but christ and the life I now live I live by the faith of the son of god who loved me and gave himself for me. What a history I now have, its as the song says, shared my humanity, so that I now share his divinity, his story, is my story. And the best thing of all he wants to live his life in me.
