Dave Loggins – Please Come To Boston lyrics

Please come to Boston for the spring time.
I'm stayin' here with some friends
And they've got lots of room.
You can sell your paintings on the sidewalk
By a cafe where I hope to be workin' soon.
Please come to Boston.
She said, "No.
Would you come home to me? "

And she said, "Hey, ramblin' boy,
Now won't you settle down?
Boston ain't your kind of town.
There ain't no gold and
There ain't nobody like me.
I'm the number one fan
Of the man from Tennessee. "

Please come to Denver with the snow fall.
We'll move up into the mountains so far
That we can't be found.
And throw "I love you" echoes down the canyon
And then lie awake at night until they come back around.
Please come to Denver.
She said, "No.
Boy, would you come home to me? "

And she said, "Hey, ramblin' boy,
Why don't you settle down?
Denver ain't your kind of town.
There ain't no gold and
There ain't nobody like me.
'Cause I'm the number one fan
Of the man from Tennessee. "

Now, this drifter's world goes 'round and 'round
And I doubt that it's ever gonna stop,
But of all the dreams I've lost or found
And all that I ain't got.
I still need to lean to
Somebody I can sing to.

Please come to L. A. To live forever.
California life alone is just too hard to build.
I live in a house that looks out over the ocean.
And there's some stars that fell from the sky
And livin' up on the hill.
Please come to L. A.
She just said, "No.
Boy, won't you come home to me? "

And she said, "Hey, ramblin' boy,
Why don't you settle down?
L. A. Can't be your kind of town.
There ain't no gold and
There ain't nobody like me.
No, no, I'm the number one fan
Of the man from Tennessee.
I'm the number one fan
Of the man from Tennessee. "

In 1975, I was engaged to a guy from corpus christi, texas. He wanted us to live in corpus. His brother had drowned at padre island years before. I felt living there would make him sad. He moved back to corpus and wanted me to marry him and join him. I wanted him to come back to louisiana. He eventually told me to send him the engagement ring and I did. I can really relate to please come to boston.

I think the meaning is based on our perception & our perception based on our experiences, personality & our current happenings in life - like what's goin' on in our lives right now.

I see this song as a woman whose grounded as far as who she is and what she wants out of life. She's found a home for herself, probably with her other family members... and isn't going to just up & leave. She's loyal but predictable.
Predictable - the Ramblin Boy can't do predictable. It would simply bore him to death. I see him as a messy, easy going, spontaneous man who finds as much happiness as he does love. And he does both with all he's got. Like everything else he does.
But when it comes to love. I could see him as possibly two different ways. One, He's hopelessly in love with her & wants her to join him but simply can't give up his spontaneous, anything-anywhere goes lifestyle for a Mon - Fri same ole run of the mill, cookie cutter life. Even if it meant being with the love of his life. Because he loved life on the road, traveling from place to place. He loved it more.
Or, I see him as a Walkaway Joe. Quite possibly, a woman like her in every city or town he's ever hung his hat long enough to find employment. Seems to go more with the lifestyle, I guess.

    Either way, she ain't comin'.
