Don't hold yourself like that
You'll hurt your knees
I kissed your mouth and back
But that's all I need

Don't build your world around volcanoes melt you down

What I am to you is not real
What I am to you you do not need
What I am to you is not what you mean to me
You give me miles and miles of mountains
And I'll ask for the sea

Don't throw yourself like that
In front of me
I kissed your mouth your back
Is that all you need?
Don't drag my love around volcanoes melt me down

What I am to you is not real
What I am to you you do not need
What I am to you is not what you mean to me
You give me miles and miles of mountains
And I'll ask for the sea

What I give to you
Is just what I'm going through

This is nothing new
No no just another phase of finding what I really need
Is what makes me bleed
And like a new disease she's still too young to treat
Like a distant tree
Volcanoes melt me down
She's still too young
I kissed your mouth
You do not need me

Most all of damien rice's songs have hidden sexual messages, some not so hidden. I think he is talking about a young girl who will do anything for him. Maybe too much for him to respect. He will just use her. It's a metaphor as is most all of his music, from her getting on her knees to the volcano. As someone said earlier, he'll just use her because that's the way he is.

I have read a great deal into this song. Haven't a clue as to whether or not I'm right, but it makes sense to me. Definitely a more experienced man with a younger girl who offers too much drama (the miles and miles of mountains) while he would prefer smoother sailing but perhaps more depth). But although he warns her, and knows she worships him irrationally (you'll hurt your knees), he can't quite break it off with her. She's too new to the game of love (like a true disease)and he doesn't want to be the one to break her heart. (she's still too young). I think he is attracted to her youth and innocence but just doesn't want what goes with it. He wants someone deeper that will engage his heart and soul more. She's just a hard habit to break, but he's trying to warn her. This is funny because I am probably way off the mark, but that's what the song represented to me. As someone who has been in both roles and felt both the rush of inexperienced love and the jaded sense of being a heartbreaker.
