Don't hold yourself like that
You'll hurt your knees
I kissed your mouth and back
But that's all I need

Don't build your world around volcanoes melt you down

What I am to you is not real
What I am to you you do not need
What I am to you is not what you mean to me
You give me miles and miles of mountains
And I'll ask for the sea

Don't throw yourself like that
In front of me
I kissed your mouth your back
Is that all you need?
Don't drag my love around volcanoes melt me down

What I am to you is not real
What I am to you you do not need
What I am to you is not what you mean to me
You give me miles and miles of mountains
And I'll ask for the sea

What I give to you
Is just what I'm going through

This is nothing new
No no just another phase of finding what I really need
Is what makes me bleed
And like a new disease she's still too young to treat
Like a distant tree
Volcanoes melt me down
She's still too young
I kissed your mouth
You do not need me

He is with a younger girl, who wants more of a relationship than he does. Because she wants more, she expects more, and she does more for him. He takes advantage of it, and while he feels bad about it, he doesn't end the relationship, nor does he commit more to her. He only takes what he needs, and gives nothing to her. And because she is to young and naive, she will not end it either, because she thinks she can change him. She's new to the game, and more idealistic.

Most all of damien rice's songs have hidden sexual messages, some not so hidden. I think he is talking about a young girl who will do anything for him... Maybe too much for him to respect. He will just use her. It's a metaphor as is most all of his music, from her getting on her knees to the volcano. As someone said earlier, he'll just use her because that's the way he is.

I think this song resembles a lot of the book 50 shades of grey if you have read it. Obviously this song is not about the book but it fits it somewhat- i'm reading it now and have just discovered this song so i think it's fitting. This song to me is about a man who is experienced and he finds this young girl (or innocent) girl who is crazy for him. And he feels something too but he realizes that she loves him too much or he loves her not enough and he is struggling with what to do. The reason the book brings me to mind is that ana in the book is very innocent and does things for christian because of her love for him but he isn't looking for that romance, he's looking for someone for purely "sexual" purposes. I don't know just my take. But this song is lovely and i think its very haunting and riveting.
