Just because I'm losing
Doesn't mean I'm lost
Doesn't mean I'll stop
Doesn't mean I'm in a cross
Just because I'm hurting
Doesn't mean I'm hurt
Doesn't mean I didn't get what I deserve
No better and no worse
I just got lost
Every river that I've tried to cross
And every door I ever tried was locked
Ooh-Oh, And I'm just waiting till the shine wears off...
You might be a big fish
In a little pond
Doesn't mean you've won
'Cause along may come
A bigger one
And you'll be lost
Every river that you try to cross
Every gun you ever held went off
Ooh-Oh, And I'm just waiting till the firing stops
Ooh-Oh, And I'm just waiting till the shine wears off
Ooh-Oh, And I'm just waiting till the shine wears off
Ooh-Oh, And I'm just waiting till the shine wears off...
Just because I'm losing
Doesn't mean I'm lost
Doesn't mean I'll stop
Doesn't mean I will cross
Here, it is like 'losing the battle but winning the war', meaning that sometimes when things seem like they are at the end, they really are not, and you will still shed blood and stay proud.
Just because I'm hurting
Doesn't mean I'm hurt
Doesn't mean I didn't get what I deserve
No better and no worse
Even if you are physically hurt, it doesn't mean that you are emotionally affected. Like in war, the damage is mutual. When somebody shoots you, you are physically hurt but not emotionally since it's 'the enemy' and you would have done the same if you had the opportunity, he just got to shoot before you for 'no better and no worse'. He is kind of neutral, he doesn't think it's necessarily good, but he doesn't object to it.
I just got lost
Every river that I've tried to cross
And every door I ever tried was locked
Ooh-Oh, And I'm just waiting till the shine wears off...
Here he is really revealing what he feels. He is lost (obviously as it says) and he is explaining that he really cannot find a way sometimes and waits until 'the shine wears off'
You might be a big fish
In a little pond
Doesn't mean you've won
'Cause along may come
A bigger one
And you'll be lost
This presents a bit of hubris -- although you might feel safe, you never truly are, and feeling so secure might lead you to doom and feeling lost.
I believe this song is about war... Even towards the end he explains how he is waiting "till the firing starts." It explains about pride -- kind of a Spartan-like personality. But there is also the negative side and irony of how we sometimes get things when we don't expect them.
to me this song means uve never lost, and youll never truly lose. as long as youve got yourself and god your fine. wich are two things you cant lose. yea you might be big but that doesnt mean that your the best. it takes experience to hold a gun. you have to be trained not to lose. and your just waiting for the shine of your failure to wear off. which u dont need to do. god never sees the shine once you ask for forgiveness. but others may.
this song to mean means...dont give up trying. you can always find your way. but when you do get ahead, alwaysbe aware-you have to keep working..becuasevsomeone better may come along. dont give up and always workyour hardest. coldplay are big on morals.
