this song is an old time favorite. i like its melody without minding the whole message, until my sister whose name is Laura died of an accident. It is only today when i read it through and felt that the song is made for my sister. I am both sad and glad because this song brings my sister back to me...to us.

The song is very literally about a young girl who was the college roommate and sorority sister of the woman he was dating at the time.

Cross had met the woman, Paige, after a concert, and had begun romancing her, even though she was attending college, whereas he was eventually going so far as to title his 2nd album after her ("Another Page"). Paige was featured in the album sleeve sitting on a chair, for those who have ever seen the album.

During this period a bizare and tragic event occurred during the homecoming weekend at the college. Laura was struck by a stray bullet fired during a bank robbery, and killed while driving in a car with her parents. The randomness and extreme tragedy of this event was well known throughout the campus, and of course, emotionally devastating to Paige.

Cross, who had met Laura through Paige, wrote the song as a tribute to her.
