Avenged Sevenfold – Gunslinger lyrics
Yeah, you've been alone
I've been gone for far too long
But with all that we've been through
After all this time I'm coming home to you

Never let it show
The pain I've grown to know

'Cause with all these things we do
It don't matter when I'm coming home to you

I reach towards the sky I've said my goodbyes
My heart's always with you now
I won't question why so many have died
My prayers have made it through yeah
'Cause with all these things we do

It doesn't matter when I'm coming home to you

Letters keep me warm
Helped me through the storm

But with all that we've been through
After all this time I'm coming home to you

I reach towards the sky I've said my goodbyes
My heart's always with you now

I won't question why so many have died
My prayers have made it through yeah
'Cause with all these things we do
It don't matter when I'm coming home to you

I've always been true
I've waited so long just to come hold you
I'm making it through
It's been far too long, we've proven our
Love over time's so strong, in all that we do
The stars in the night, they lend me their light
To bring me closer to heaven with you

(Bring me closer)

But with all that we've been through
After all this time I'm coming home to you

I reach towards the sky I've said my goodbyes
My heart's always with you now
I won't question why so many have died
My prayers have made it through yeah
'Cause with all these things we do
It don't matter when I'm coming home to you

And with all that we've been through
After all this time I'm coming home to you

Having been to Iraq, to me, this song is about missing your loved ones on a deployment, and your reaching the end of it and all you can think about is going back to heaven (the states) to be back with the ones you love. There were quite a few times where the stars lent me their light so I could remember the good times to help me get through what I was.

I agree with Gunslinger there. D best thing abt A7x lyrics is you can interpret them anyway you like n it all fits. Aside from d love song thingy, I think its about sum1 whos lost sum1 they loved to death. N he's finally going home to that person. Tho he/she's dead, he's always been true, n their love's still strong despite time n death. Death is not the end, but rather the beginning of their time together.

I totally agree with you on that. I'm in Afghanistan right now and about 10 days from coming home on R&are to marry my girl and the first time I heard my roommate play this song that exactly how I pictured it. I miss her and my soon to be step-son a lot and all I can thing about coming home to them and the rest of my family. Thanks to my roommate, I'm now a huge A7x fan.

In my personal opinion this song is about someone having a conversation with god. As if he is ready to die. So many in his life have died but yet he is still here. He is ready to come home (heaven). His love for god has always been true and god has always had his heart. All the pain in his life and all that he may have done or not been there when he should've been. God helps him thru the storm. After all this time he's finally coming home to be with god. Anyway I could go on and on but that's what I get out of it when I listen to it. But that's what I love about A7x, can mean anything you want it to.

To those reffering to the video found on YouTube. That is a fan-made video of this song and scenes from the movie Jarhead. A7x doesn't have a music video for this song. I'm not that's not what the movie is about, I tend to think you can interpret an A7x song anyway you like and try to amke it fit ur own life. I myself like to think this a love song and it is touching as it is a good song just to listen to.

I agree. It all fits. This song hit home for me as my future husband had to do the right thing for a chance at a real life together. One without ever having to look behind you. As I left for California to start us a new beginning I watched helplessly as he walked through the doors of the Denver Police Department and turned himself into the authorities for a stupid mistake done years before. As he remains in custody in Colorado I am in California building a life for him to come home to. Shaun, I commend you baby for your honesty and your integrity. I know walking through those doors wasn't easy to do. So Shaun Reese Evans, This ones for you baby. I Love you and I miss you more then my words can say. So Avenged Sevenfold is saying it for me and they are keeping me company while you are away and as always baby, I remain faithfully and forever yours. Rachell.

For me it means that, as a soldier fighting for our country, its a reason to keep living. Its the song I told my husband to listen to when he felt like I was far too gone. It gives me peace to know that he is home with my kids telling them that their 'mommy' is a hero and will be comming home soon. Another meaning that this song has is as for my first husband, who died in combat with me about 5 years ago. It means that I no matter how much I do and even if I die I will be comming to heaven to be with him. Don't get me wrong I do love my current husband, but I also dearly loved my former one. Now that you've seen this song through a soldiers eyes I hope it has a new meaning to you.

Wow a great song its really like a knife to the heart, so emotional, a soldier writing a letter to a loved one reminding the great times they had together and midst the break of war still promises her that he will come home no matter what. This signifies the positive note and courage of the stereotypical american soldier himself. All this meaning blended into a musical theme that adopts and reminds us the great american wild west and hints us that the soldier is equivalent to a cowboy hero. Great stuff by a7x.

I think this song can mean different things. I think of two different things when I hear this freakin awesome song. Like someone already said I think of a guy talkin to god. But I mostly think of a lovely commited husband serving for the best freakin country and he can't wait to come home to his wife and kids and I think that the letters help him get through it the heaven in this song is the place the solder goes to think about his loved ones.
