Avenged Sevenfold – Fiction lyrics
Now I think I understand
How this world can overcome a man
.
Like a friend we saw it through
In the end I gave my life for you.

Gave you all I had to give
Found a place for me to rest my head.
While I may be hard to find
Heard there's peace just on the other side.

Not that I could
Or that I would
Let it burn
Under my skin,
Let it burn.

Left this life to set me free
Took a piece of you inside of me.
All this hurt can finally fade
Promise me you'll never feel afraid
.

Not that I could
Or that I would
Let it burn
Under my skin
Let it burn

I hope it's worth it, out on the highway, yeah
I know you'll find your own way when I'm not with you

So tell everybody, the ones who walk beside me, yeah
I hope you'll find your own way when I'm not with you tonight

I hope it's worth it, what's left behind me, yeah
I know you'll find your own way when I'm not with you

So tell everybody, the ones who walk beside me, yeah
I know you'll find your own way when I'm not with you tonight

This song is just. Wow; I mean. Wow! The Rev is just. Just. Wow, again. I still can't believe we've actually lost him, but I solemnly believe we haven't. He's just teaching God how to play drums; He'll be back soon. :)
The song made me cry; I don't know, it just makes me feel like Jimmy knew he was going to die - Thumbs up if anyone agrees.
Anyways, great songs, great vocals, great lyrics, just awesome.
    R.I.P The Rev.

I think the rev was 2 in love with his friends, family and music 2 ever wanna leave them purposely. This song seem's more like a dream then a suicide note. Like maybe just maybe he had one of thoes dreams where you wake up and you think ur dead. Maybe this is just his way of telling us how he felt. How real it all seemed. The accidental overdose was just a freak accident in my eyes. Like M. Shadows said. "this song sounds like jimmy predicting his death." what if he was just preparing him self cuz he was scared of his own dream.

In the interview with M. Shadows on kerrang radio, he says that this song sounds like jimmy predicting his death.
Jimmy completed the writing of this song just 3 days before he left us :(
I do not believe, however, that this is his suicide note, as if any of you have seen film such as 'Avenged Sevenfold - All Excess', you will see the lively man he was, and that he was surrounded by so much love.
Quote M. Shadows - the rev is everyones best friend. At weddings, he is always the best man.
    R.I.P buddy

Did you know that Fiction original title was "Death", and it's changed the title to "Fiction" for some reason, and the lyric "Let it burn Under my skin, Let it burn." does that meaning that was cremation, and lyric "I know you'll find your own way when I'm not with you tonight" mean Jimmy/The Rev want that Avenged Sevenfold would still continue making a song without him. But Overall I Love This Song.

One; it wasn't a suicide note. It was a song he had started a long time ago. But he knew he wouldn't live past 30; so he finished the song as a final goodbye, like to leave a piece of him left for the rest of a7x. 'i hope it's worth it, whats left behind me, ' he meant he hopes that the song was worth it, in means of a7x knowing it's pure value. The chorus, meant, the sadness of having to leave them, and how if he told them how it would effect the rest of the band. My fav rev quote "one day i'm gonna get off of this bus, run into the woods and never come back. But when i do, i'll be the knife master"he's gone into those woods. He'll come back as a part of each a7x fan, and live inside each member of a7x. As the drum master. Dude, you rock! But seriously, hurry up with giving god those drum lessons!

I love this song and the revs death affected all of us now he did die of natural causes and this song did make a big connfliction with the thought of him commiting suicide but this song was just a song to him and great one at that and he left us with a very vivid and candid memory of him and avenged will never be the same without him but the important thing to know was he was happy and his memory will live on forever. Just remember heroes are remembered and legends live forever. Rest in peace Jimmy.

I think this song is a goodbye, almost like the rev knew he was going to die. It's about facing someone's absence with grace, and not to be afraid of what may come next. There's peace on the other side, meaning he's not suffering, so there's no need to be sad for him. I think of my little brother every thime I hear this song. He passed away a few months ago, and this is the one song that always brings me peace. Such a beautiful song with meaningful lyrics. Those are very hard to come by.

The rev didn't want to have a painful death. He knew he did not have long. This was his suicide note to his family, friends, and fans. This was the only way the rev knew how to do it, and he did it the best way in my opion. The rev also wrote brompton cocktail, which means a mixture of drugs and alcohol for a suicide. His suicide was a brompton cocktail.

"basically jimmy had written a song and i pushed him to keep finishing it because i thought it was brilliant. Three days before he died, he finished the song. He called it death. The very end lyrics he repeats over and over are, "i hope its worth it what's left behind me, I know you'll find your own way when I'm not with you tonight", and he sings that 4 times over and over like, over this eerie organ, and like the slowest, saddest key changes… and he died 3 days later. He told me that night, he'd finished it. He said "you know matt, I'm finished writing on this record. I think I've given you guys everything that I have on this record. I don't know if we have anymore songs left from anybody else or what we're going to do but this, this is my final song. " it was like a goodbye letter. " - matt shadows. It's so sad. But so sweet. Only the rev could make something this beautiful.

It's not a suicide note. Remember, "everybody's gotta die sometime". (a little piece of heaven). Just, in general though, everybody does die eventually, and jimmy knew that, especially someone with his heart condition knew to make the best of everyday.
Basically, this song, victim, so far away, and save me are just. Wow. I don't know what to say. They're just beautiful. Heartfelt, anguished, and amazing. Jimmy died on this day, but he is very much alive in our hearts and in every crazy part in our minds. Rest in peace, you drumming legend, you.

Seeing as how jimmy also had fiction tattoo'ed down his chest. This songs meaning; what I think? Is having a safe journy to the afterlife. Knowing everyone back down here on earth will forever miss him. Hes in a better place, happy. He knows each and everyone of his fans and family love him and treasure the memories of him for a life time. We all will see you again some day dear friend. Goodbye for now jimmy. Live on forever.

Fiction isn't a suicide note by Jimmy. According to Johnny, it's a song Jimmy had written a long time ago, but never really completed it. Guess he decided to complete it before he passed on.
Another thing is, Jimmy did know he wasn't gonna live past the age of 30. I saw it in an interview somewhere where Syn said he kept telling Papa Gates he wouldn't be able to live past 30 when he was a teenager or something like that.
Lastly, I think it's true when a person knows that their time is almost up. Jimmy knew, that's why he didn't drink when he attended Zacky's 28th birthday party 'cause he knew Zacky gets upset when he drank too much alcohol. He even insisted on Zacky keeping his favorite Jacket (I think it's the one with Death Bat on the back and the words Avenged Sevenfold go over and under the Death Bat) when Zacky asked him to take it back.

With all respect guys, The Rev death was suicide. Just read this god damn song and any other song he has made!
He didn't like this world, he meant it was cold and he couldn't understand it. But he love his friends, he love his family and quote him:
"Not that i could, or that i would. Let it burn under my skin, let it burn" that could be drugs, pills and alcohol kicking in, and it burns because the body reaction.
"I hope it's worth it, out on the highway"
He's on the highway to God.
Read any other song he has made, like Brompton Cocktail, it's the same thing, he didn't like the world, but he loved his fans, friends and family, and i'll respect his choice. This world is cruel, and he left behind a lot of things, but we will remember him as a damn good drummer and one of the best songwriters (Imo). He was a f*****g good person, and we will love him no matter what he decided.
    R.I.P Jimmy "The Rev" Sullivan.

It seems to me like Jimmy is telling Brian take care of the people we love and know that I'm in a better place. I'm not saying he comitted suicide, but maybe he felt like it was his time to go. Sometimes people feel down and I think Jimmy's death was purely by coincidence. It was his life to write songs and perform. It only makes sense that his feelings and emotions would come out in his music. I don't think A7x would have released this song if they thought it was a 'suicide' note. Btw I also don't think So Far Away was written to accuse Jimmy of commiting suicide. It was written by Brian to say if you were still able to hear me I would tell you the people we love are alright. Of course Brian misses Jimmy. It only makes sense. They were in two bands together and they were friends in high school.

Just a thought, maybe he predicted that he would not live past 30. Because he knew he was not going to stay. Writing this song just puts more pieces to a tragic story. But before I read so many comments, knowing that Jimmy wrote the song, listening to the song over and over. My first thought was, he knew he was leaving. He meant to go. As painful as it is to hear, I think it is a good point.

Ok, First of all. It was'nt suicide! The Rev was crazy but not that crazy. And no I didn't know him as a person, But when I found out about A7x I did so much research and videos and The Rev was a good, caring dude. And yes he did have a heart problem. But just think, if you were a singer and your drummer died of pill popin or some thing would'nt you like it if no one really knew? And would you like it if some people spread roomers? Like that it was suicide or that he/she died of drugs or pills? I don't think so. So quit makin up these things and be a little more respectful fowards the rest of the band and to The Rev. Come on people! I Love You Jimmy.

@Blackwing96, First of all. This is not a suicide note from the Rev. Get your facts straights, the Rev said he knew two things, he said he knew he was gonna be a rockstar, and that he wasn't gonna live past the age of 30. He never said he didn't want to live past the age of 30! Maybe he said he wasnt going to live past the age of 30 because of the heart condition that he had. I'm pretty sure he knew about his enlarged heart. The Rev also admitted to doing many different kinds of hard drugs, this also is said to have played a roll in his death.

@Shadzv As I'm actually quite sure you already know. The Rev actually knew he was going to die. He had a heart problem (my English is not good enough to explain what exactly) and he knew he wasn't going to get a lot older then 30 years. I've heard that this song is the Rev's suicide note because he couldn't live with the pain of his condition. I don't know if that's true because I also heard I died of a wrong combination of medication and alcohol.

This is the best song to ever walk planet earth. Wow, don't you just love my personification? Well since I shall be posting the meaning to said song, all I guess I can say is, it's obviously about the rev's death, so don't get your panties in a bunch. But he didn't exactly commit suicide to all you unaware people out there, he obviously had heart problems and alcohol problems and what not. He was amazing at writing songs, and I really like the song so far away because it is kinda like answering the song fiction. I love avenged sevenfold. So yeah. Nuff said. ;)

I do believe this is Jimmy's Suicide note, and I believe he knew what he was doing when he did take those pills @ta-duh! "oxycodone, oxymorphone, diazepam/nordiazepam and ethanol" to be exact you fkng tard. None of you knew him as a person, you only think you do becuase he makes good music. Hes a person too. I respect him for whatever he did wether it was suicide or not. I just wish he was a christian so I could see him in heaven.

This song was The Rev's suicide note. In the album art, there are lines highlighted in red, "Now I think I understand how this world can overcome a man. Not that I could or that I would let it burn under my skin, let it burn. I hope it's worth it, here on the highway, yeah I know you'll find your own way when I'm not with you." Then the first word of the next song "Save Me" is Skull, which is also in red. So my theory is that the red lines are the note they found when they found his body, which was a reference to the song, and I believe he signed it as Skull. This song gives me the chills when I think about it.

    Okay.
The Rev did not commit sucide. And he did not die of an overdose. He died of natural causes. That's why it was such a surprise because he was so young. There was no alcohol in his system or any drugs of any kind. Don't go saying he overdose/ killed himself when he actually didn't. Yea it sounds like his predicting his death. But maybe that's just by chance? The Rev was an aazing writer. He could have wrote this based on someone he lost for anyone knows.
